With 10 days left in primitive hunting season in this part of South Mississippi, I have a few more chances to hunt. Now that would not mean much to me considering my old school muzzle loader pistol that I have been using and the fact that I am having trouble seeing that thin front sight, especially in the low light of the evening and have to end my hunts some 35-40 minutes before I would like to and I can forget early morning hours till almost sunrise. I missed a doe at 90yds this last weekend with my muzzle loading pistol for the inability on my part to see my front sight clearly in the low light, and shot just over her back and hit a pine tree just behind her.
So, I have acquired a Knight Disc Elite .50 cal muzzle loader, with a Burris 3-9x40 FullField scope, Hornady SST Flex saboted bullets, and some Triple seven magnum pellets and 100 209 primers. It is like new and shoots great.
I cleaned it again, but it didn't really need it (you know when you get a gun you just have to clean it, even if it does not need it) I was going to bore sight it, but it didn't need that either, it was on at 50 yds. I love the feel of the thumbhole stock, it really fits my hand when I shoulder the rifle and allows me quick acquisition of my target. With 2 Triple 7 Magnums pellets, I was able at the range this morning with a brief break in the rain, to reach just at 2200fps with a 250gr Hornady SST Flex saboted bullet.
Here are a few pictures of this rifle and target after sighting in this morning.
Sighted it in this morning and here is the three shot group at 100 yds, minus bore it measured 1.245" Put the fist and second in the same hole and the third was a little left. Good enough for now, will tweak my load this spring. I only have a few more bullets and powder, so no more shooting unless I see a buck, otherwise I will wait till after hunting season. I love the trigger, it is absolutely outstanding indeed. Bad weather today and tomorrow with rain and ice until tomorrow evening, so I will go hunting Saturday.
