I have a 1911 with scratches in the blueing on the slide. I want to get it refinished but i dont know where to take it to here on the coast or if it would be best to be re blued or another type of finish. So i guess my question is Where would be a good gunsmith to take it to in the gulf coast area, and any opinions on what type of finish would be best. i want to make sure that the new finish doesnt fill up any of the words or the colt symbol on the slide.

thanks for any help and opinions

I suggest a Black-T finish by Birdsong's in Florence.

All of the information should be there.

If you want a traditional blued finish Dockworth's in Petal or Gander Mountain in Hburg. Gander Mtn also does several other spray on finishes.
Their website is beyond out of date, so I wouldn't use it for much more than pictures, contact info and the info about the process and such. Prices and their policies on color combos, as well as existing colors, have all changed since the last that site was updated

Emri Stidham is a friend of mine, professional gunsmith since 1982, same place since 1984, Roberstdale, Alabama. He can blue it without ruining your markings.

Also consider Daniel Wyatt Robbins Gun Repair in Mt Olive. He just reblued a S&W for me. 601-797-3193, cell 601-214-1088.

I guess both are about the same distance from you. Please post what you decide to do and pictures!
