Its beat, a little battered and bruised but all i really care about right now is it being a shooter.
It could be restored, and probably will be one day, but i do not have the funds right now. Sarco has good stocks and everything else that is missing. It is drilled and tapped for a peep sight but one screw is broken off in the receiver. I will probably take it hunting in a few weeks. The bore is dark but rifling is strong.
I do want to get a better stock asap, anybody got one? either original or sporter.
Can anybody tell me what all the stuff on the stock disk means?

Thanks.. Anybody ever bought some of the wooden bullet blanks for the brass to reload? Think frodo did at one point but cant find the thread right now.

Yes, I reload the wood bullet blanks, have shot a lot of them. I mostly use H4831 under 140 gr bullets of several types. PPU sells decent Swede ammo, I like the soft points and the match (123gr?). The brass is good for reloading.

Doug Bowser, who has written a book on the Swedes, recommends strongly against reloading the blanks and gallery brass; IIRC he has correspondence from Swedish military ordnance officers in which they state that such brass is "rejected" or some such term and as such not suitable for full-power loads. FWIW. I personally value my Swedes too much so I shoot the gallery and blank rounds and then use the brass for random landfill material. This in and of itself has an inherent value. Random metal.

I value Doug's opinion, but I also value the opinion of all the people who have done it safely. I did the research, especially on the gunboards swede forum. I wouldn't encourage someone else to do it, I encourage everyone to do their own research like I did.

I was only going to buy some, pull the wood bullet and use the case for one load. I have no desire to mess with berdan primers.
That would be for just moderate range ammo... probably not much if any hotter than a gallery load.
. I will be buying some more ppu or other stuff to use the brass.

Wish i could order some but i am tapped out till some things sell.

Saw a video last night comparing this gun with one of the m38 carbines, since this one will be reblued would i really hurt its value making an m38 clone? I would do it right and it would not be distinguishable from an original when done

Well, not Doug's opinion, but something written to him by a Swedish ordnance officer. I am also aware of the many, many postings about use of both the blank brass and the gallery brass. One must make one's own decisions as to the risk one takes; there is no value judgment here, I am just stating what I have learned from those (Swedes) who IMHO know more about such things than I do. I do hope that all who use this brass are safe and have no problems.

I believe there is more to what the Swedes had to do to convert m96s to m38s than just cut and recrown the barrel.

Not yet, only had the gun a few days.

I have a good original stock with handguard and a few other odds and ends coming soon for this. The guy wouldn't even let me pay shipping

Looks like all that was done was to cut down the fore end of the stock, luckily for you. If the bore is dark it should with any luck clean up, 6.5x55mm was never manufactured with corrosive primers.

I got the stock in yesterday, and a few extras. will get it cleaned up tomorrow hopefully and in its new stock. I polished all the nastiness off the bolt the other day and it looks like it should now.
