22 F-Class Experience!

A day or two ago I posted a note stating that a few of us were going to get together on Saturday to shoot the 22s .. A few did show up even though it look like rain. In attendace was SubGunFan, X-RIng, Shoeshooter, BubbaT, Robert (Not on Forum YET!!), and myself. Had a good time!! .... and learned alot.

The wind is your enemy in shooting out to 100yrds!! ... and YES, it was blowing pretty darn good around noon on Saturday .... It was a real struggle for me to keep a flyer from leaving the 9 ring -- The target stands were "blowing in the wind" and the wind was blowing the bullets around!! OH. YES, I had more than several do it to me -- I would catch myself saying, "I know I should not have broke the shoot at that time."

I had fun!!

XD357 came by with his new Savage just as we were loading up ... Maybe next time XD!!

There aren't many sports where the "competitors" so freely share information. Good fellowship, really didn't want to leave to go to work. (of course, that's true most days :p )

Did put a few rounds through one of Captain's Kimbers...SWEET!!. Come on, CMP, ship my rifle!

Under two weeks to the 18th...clock's tickin'.

Re: 22 F-Class Experience!

Ill give it a try also. I learned today that i have to bury the buttstock of my savage into the rear rest to be able to get a good group. I was letting it somewhat free recoil and all the ammo was grouping like a shotgun. So i tried holding it down tight and vola. Next group was with sk standard plus and it measured just under .5" at 100. So from there on i started doin the same thing and most the ammo grouped decent. And when it was gettin dark i had gone thru bout 600 rounds. I had a pile of spent brass and the suppressor was nasty inside. Still waiting for some more that good ammo to get here so i can finish testing and decide on what im gonna use. I really like that sk from lapua at 3.50 per 50.

I might need to shoot with the Bogue chitto crew because in LA they dont freely give any info. If the old timers down there shoot good it is "luck" (so they say) not skill that they can or will pass on. Only the younger guys will talk with you and of course Don Geraci my gunsmith.

I agree 100% --- While recoil may not be much in a HEAVY 22RF, each rifle type is a little different. Stability, stability, stability seems to be a key ingredient when shooting long range with the 22RF.

Re: 22 F-Class Experience!

We used to shoot 100 yard matches with the .22 target rifles. A 2 day event with 160 shots one day and 160 shots the next. It was a contest of endurance as well as skill. The rifles were supported by the shooter and the sling. Some of the scores would surprise you. 3190 was not uncommon. The man that taught us this style of shooting was Alonzo Woods of Elbridge, New York. He was NRA National Champion several times in the 1950's and 1960's. I will look at the schedule and see if our club can have a 200 yard .22 rf match.

By the way, what target are you using for the .22rf rifle at 100 yards , we used to use the NRA 100 yard smallbore target.

Doug: X-Ring took the 600 yrd F-Class target and scaled it down to 100yrds. The 10 ring is 1" and the X about 1/2 that size ... I will send you a printable copy via email.

Look at the schedule and we might just give it a try!! Will have to see if I can ge that much scope adjustment out of my current set-up!!
