Due to so many e-mails, the NRA Smallbore(22 Rimfire) Rifle Silhouette Match is back on at Magnolia Rifle & Pistol CLub in Jackson, MS. for this Saturday February 12, 2011. This is all in the standing position. You do not have to be an NRA member to shoot this Match. Entry fees are reduced for this last Match of 2011 to $5 for adults and $1 for Juniors.

One of the training techniques that the better Rifle Silhouette shooters use is known as the "accountability group". I will form a e-mail accountability group for this week to give some insight to training and drills I go through for the standing position. This will eliminate a lot of frustration for people giving this a try for the first time and you will hit more targets Saturday morning. If you only have three minutes to train each night this week that three minutes will do you a lot of good. I believe that a Master class shooter will be joining the accountability group for this week. It will be interesting to see how he trains.

You can bring any kind of .22 Rifle that you have but we must shoot Standard velocity Ammo due to target damage. Federal Automatch is allowed because it is slow enough that it is not causing target damage. This is a fun Match. Do not worry about what you have rifle wise. There will be plenty of people that will share rifles with you. Do not worry about anything just come, shoot and have fun.

E-mail me as soon as possible to reserve your slot or if you need more information!

Mrs. Hammer, Officially slings are allowed but they must hang free of the rifle and shooter and cannot be used for support or to help you make the shot in any way. Most people do not have a sling attached. This is a hunting rifle 22 Rimfire sport. Any 22 Rimfire can be shot in the Match but it must be shot in the standing postion only without support. The only support you have is your feet on the ground. That is the only rule besides safety rules that we worry about. Join us for the fun. Do not worry too much about the rules. Just show up, shoot and have fun!

It helps to use a Search on the internet about the History of Rifle Silhouette. It was invented in the early 1900's by the General Bandit Pancho Villa's officers' staff. His staff were always concerned about who was the best long distance rifle shot and the contest was created. Around the same time Alvin York was doing the same thing backwwods Tennessee.

Check out the forums on www.steelchickens.com and the Silhouette information in the NRA website. 2011 Scorebooks are being brought to the Match by the Winnsboro Gun Club Match Director if his arrive before Saturday for those who want to purchase a 2011 Scorebook.

I have a e-mail training support group going for this week. If you would like to shoot Saturday and participate in the e-mail group practicing daily for this Match please e-mail me. It is interesting to see the innovative ways that people practice.

E-mail me.

Scopes are SOP

TankerHC,
Scopes are used by most (22 Rimfire) Smallbore Rimfire Silhouette shooters. Most travelling Match regulars' scopes are averaging around 24X. Many are using 13 to 40X Leupold variables doubled by Premier. The doubling is no longer available since Premier got the Schimdt and Bender Military contract. Majority are using single dot. Crosshair is rare. Scopes in Rifle Silhouette are a very personal thing. A few National Champions are using scopes up to 60X. I used a Weaver T36 for years with a 1/8 MOA Dot and 1/8 MOA clicks. Then switched to a T24 with a 1/2 MOA Dot and 1/4 MOA clicks. Now I am starting back this 2011 season with a fixed 30X with 1/4 MOA clicks.

See the Competiton forum where we were talking about zeroing the four distances and how Rifle Silhouette shooters do not count clicks. Once you see the elevation sheet on a scope it will instantly click with you how it works.

If you do not have a scope with target turrets most people just hold over.

We use Standard Velocity Ammo with lead bullets because we shoot cast iron NRA approved targets which can be damaged by any faster ammo and Standard velocity is more accurate at the 77 and 100 meter targets. If you shoot a lot of 22 Rimfire Rifle Silhouette the cast iron targets give you more feedback(Different Impact sound and Target falling motion) than welded steel targets. I will have ammo available at no cost to shoot the Match with if you do not have the right ammo. There will be lots of sharing going on. Rifle Silhouette is a family atmosphere.

Please shoot me an e-mail so I can put you on the local Silhouette e-mail group. I do not e-mail junk out to people. Any e-mail you receive I will personally type!

Anybody got more questions? Fire away. I am ready.

Match fees reduced!

The Fees for this Match have been reduced. For the entire 80 round aggregate Match(both 40 round Standard and Hunter Divisions) the Match fees are reduced to a total of $5 for Adults and Juniors 19 and under $1.
This will be the only Rifle Silhouette Match held at Magnolia in Jackson in 2011. The next closest Match in 2011 are the monthlies an hour and 30 minutes away at Winnsboro Gun Club.
There will be a separate scoring division for those shooting this Match for the first time and first-timers do not have to buy an NRA scorebook.
If you plan on making the Match please e-mail me if you have not already done so. That way you will know about Match updates for Saturday.

Thanks,

Started out cold!

Ground was frozen when we started out. When things warmed up ground got muddy making walks to reset animals difficult. That was the only thing I wish I could improve for this Match frothe Shooters. Silhouette Matches usually run much faster than this one did but everyone visited and talked while we were shooting learning more about the Silhouette game. A very nice, beautiful day to shoot.

Bruce Finley with Bobby R. Huddleston spotting won the overall Standard Rifle Match with a 30 out of 40. Bobby R. Huddleston with Bruce Findley spotting finished second overall in Standard Rifle with a 29. Bruce is a mulit-time Louisiana State Champion, Southern Nationals champion, Regional Champion, and Texas State Champion.

Robb Herring won the 1st Timers class with a 11 out of 40. Mitch Martella finished second in the 1st Timers class by winning a sudden death shoot-off with Richard Lovelace.

We had 5 new shooters shoot this Match for the first time.

Thanks guys for helping set up and take down the course. Will be e-mailing complete Match report to the participants and NRA in the next few days.

Will post winners of Hunter Class shortly.

Plenty of 22 Rimfire Rifle Silhouette to shoot at other ranges in the next few months. Texas State Championships, Arkansas Regionals, Louisiana State Championships, Southern Nationals, NRA Nationals. Time to hit the road.
