22RF F-Class Competition / Rules and Feedback!!
On Saturday, Nov. 20th, we held a test run of our proposed 22RF F-Class event. The following rules and Course of Fire (COF) was used:
Open Class: ANY safe 22RF Rifle, unlimited scope magnification, any front rest, any rear rest, or bipod, shooting mats permitted, unlimited rifle weight -- fired from the prone position.
Each shooter has a dedicated target stand placed at 100yrds. On each shooter’s target stand, two targets are placed – a left target and a right target. The targets have a dedicated place at the top of the target to fire sighter rounds. Here is how it worked out for us:
A brief shooter’s meeting was conducted to explain the rules and answer any questions. Shooters were then allowed a 3 minute preparation period make any last minute adjustments to their rifle, rests, etc.
Course of Fire: The COF consisted of three strings of 20 rounds shot for a total of 60 rounds for record/score. Up to 5 sighter rounds could be fired for each of the 3 strings shot.
String #1: Shooter is permitted up to 5 sighter rounds at the beginning of each string. Shooters will fire 20 rounds for record/score within a 25 minute time limit which includes the firing of up to 5 sighter rounds. Shooter fires up to 5 sighters on the left target in the sighter area provided on the target and then fires 10 rounds onto the left target into the scoring rings for record/score. After the first 10 rounds for record/score is fired, the shooter then shifts his/her point of aim to the right target and fires another 10 rounds for record/score. After 25 minutes or conclusion of firing (which ever comes first), shooters make weapons and the firing line SAFE and move downrange and score targets. Shooters score the targets of the shooter to their right with the far right shooter scoring the far left shooter’s targets. After scoring, 2 fresh targets are put up for each shooter and shooters move back to the firing line.
String #2: Repeat of String #1
String #3: Repeat of String #1
(NOTE: The firing of sighter rounds at the start of each string is optional. Shooters may fire up to 5 sighter rounds per string but do not have to use any sighter rounds. However, once a shooter begins to fire for record/score onto a target, the shooter can not go back and fire any additional sighter rounds onto the target. There will be no sighter rounds fired onto the shooters right target.)
Using the above COF, a shooter would need 75 rounds of 22RF ammo (provided shooter uses all 5 sighter rounds per string. The minimum number of 22RF rounds required would be 60 rounds (provided shooter uses NO sighter rounds.)
Lessons learned: 1) 25 minutes per string may be too much time in that we finished each of the 3 relays far short of the 25 minute time limit; and, 2) no more than 10 shots should be fired for record onto a single target – more than 10 shots make the target very difficult to score.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are thinking of adding one or two additional Classes for those 22RF shooters who do not wish or can not invest in a target 22RF type rifle and wish to compete using what they have sitting around the house! This should be fun as well as interesting.
Sporter Class: ANY safe 22 RF Rifle limited to 7.5lbs with scope, scope magnification may be restricted to 9X, any front rest with rear bag, bipod -- fired from the prone position using the same Course of Fire (COF) as used in the Open Class. A different target may be used with larger scoring rings.
Traditional Class: ANY safe 22RF Rifle without scope magnification (iron sights only) with sling allowed. This Class will be shot at 100 yards on a different target with larger scoring rings. It has been suggested to use the same course of fire with firing positions to simulate the CMP High-Power competition.
Of course, all of the above is OPEN for discussion, modification, and further development!!
Also, we are also VERY interested in getting Junior Shooters involved in 22RF shooting and we are open to suggestions regarding a program best suited for them!!
Let us know what you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
