There seems to be a lot of interest on this Board regarding our newly established .22RF F-Class Competition. Several of you have expressed an interest in participating in the competition but can not make the monthly trek to the Magnolia R&P Club in order to participate. While GunOneDown is working on a match schedule for the coast area folks, there is still much of the state that is not covered. In order to grow this event and encourage participation from all segments of our shooting community to include juniors and women, I would like to propose we conduct a monthly Postal Match. These matches will be run separately from our regularly scheduled on-site matches. You may be asking, -- “What is a Postal Match?”

How Does it Work?
A postal match is an honor system target competition where we would have an established a set of rules and Course of Fire (COF). Two or more shooters go to your range or customary shooting location. Each shooter fires the established COF under the general rules below. You do your best and submit your scorecard to the Postal Match Director via US Mail or via email.

General Rules
*You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of those around you, including eye and ear protection.
*No age restriction; shooters under 18 must have parental consent and supervision during their shooting activity.
*Only one scorecard may be submitted per person, per class each month.
*All qualification decisions will be done and made by the Postal Match Director and all decisions are final.
*Anyone not following the COF and instructions will be disqualified – Again, this is a HONOR system match.
*The Postal Match Director reserves the right to disqualify any scorecard and any shooter for any reason. Typically, this will only be done for obvious rule violation.
*The Postal Match Director is not liable for any damages or injury resulting from participating in this match.
*All scorecards will become property of the Postal Match Director and will not be returned.
*Monthly results will be posted on MSGO.

Submitting your Scorecard
Write the following on the scorecard (Score cards and targets will be made available on-line for printing):

*Shooter’s name
*Denote Junior or Woman shooter
*Email address of shooter
*Date and time Postal Match fired
*Model and Make of Rifle used
*Brand of Scope used and maximum power used
*Brand of ammunition used
*Range details (indoors, outdoors, weather if applicable)

Scorecards can be digitally scanned (Word or PDF) or mailed to the Postal Match Director for recording.

Anyone interested?

So you are saying that someone can setup the approved layout (target dimensions and distance) on their home range and shoot the COF and submit their results?

This would really help interested shooters get a taste of 22RF F-Class competition without having to travel far (and could be done any day of the week).

Great idea. But remember......... The HONOR SYSTEM.

Yes. Everyone would fire the EXACT same target at 100 yrds and the EXACT COF at any range or shooting location, at anytime during the month, and submit their scorecards for recording by the Postal Match Director.

Will it be a single target or complete COF?
Sorry -- should have went plural in the original posts -- would actually be 6 targets - 3 strings of 20 shots fired on 6 targets (10 shots per target). Same as our current COF.

Will go back and correct to reflect "targets"!! Thanks!

I like it! So this will be, in addition to the regular match held at Magnolia?
Yes it will run separately .. nothing like hands on - face to face, on-site competition!!

Will backing targets be used?

Just want to make it simple and inexpensive. The shooter will be able to just print the targets off on their home computer/printer. This is truely an Honor system. The benefit of the doubt in scoring should go to the shooter.

Postals can be great. Our Army Guard team use to compete in Postal Matches once a year (four position indoor @ 50ft.) Those teams winning 1st at State would advance to Regional and so forth, to the shoulder-to-shoulder National Smallbore Match. Postals allow everyone to compete without an expense increase. Also, folks live busy lives and may not be able to attend every single monthly shoulder-to-shoulder match. I certainly see the "Captains" point on not using backing targets for Postals. Once we have a substantial increase of participants for shoulder-to-shoulder matches then backing targets need to be considered. And, it's not about questoning someone's integrity. If someone crossfires then that's a miss for him/her. I've crossfired in highpower years ago, and it's a miss. Dosen't matter who shot the round. And the person receiving the crossfire is not entitled to whatever that round equates to whether it's an X or a miss. Look to the future, and anticipate 100 shooters sometime this summer to compete shoulder-to-shoulder and folks start crossfiring. It's not going to be like conventional highpower with the targets being pulled after each shot. Be prepared. Thanks.

A backing target is a piece of paper placed about 6"+/- behind the scoring target. It serves 2 purposes.....

1. Helps to determine doubles.

2. Helps to detect crossfires.
