I ordered my bayonets from CMP the first day and tried to get an Onieda and Rock Island. They called me 2 weeks later and said that they were sorry and my order could not be filled and asked me to pick some alternates so I chose a PAL and UC. I got those in about a week later and then as I am cleaning them another package arrives from CMP and it's the original two I ordered. Now I have four M-1 Garand bayonets! :whaaa: I cleaned them up and discovered that, like Capt., one of mine had been broken and welded back together. However the other 3 looked fine but two of them have grips that don't fit very well. One, the UC, has a perfect grip and the blade looks pretty good.

The Rock Island

The PAL Blade and Tool (welded bayonet)

The Utica Cutlery

The Onieda Limited

WTG: May "Good Luck" continue to fall your way!!

Did they charge you for all 4?

Got to love those RIAs with dates in the early 1900's!

Off topic to the original post, but I have an M1 (10") Bayonet that was given to my grandfather by a returning soldier from Europe that is marked UFH (Union Fork and Hoe) no date mark or serial number on the opposite side of the blade. Just curious as to what one of these are worth.

With no date makes is a 1943 or later production. It was orginally made as a 10" bayo. Only SA and RIA put serial numbers on their bayos and that was prior to the early 1920s. Prior to CMP offering bayonets, an M1 bayo would bring you anywhere from $75.00 to $125.00 with US scabbard on gunbroker or Ebay depedning on condition. CMP is selling them for $65.00 with scabbard!! A very good deal!!

I know nothing about bayonets...but Oneida...is that the same Oneida as the silverware manufacturer/"former" Christian free sex commune(not joking)?
Yep - same one and still in business today -- Oneida also produced products for the battlefield: rifle sights, parachute releases, hand grenades, shells, survival guns, bayonets, aircraft fuel tanks, and chemical bombs, among other things.

I paid for all 4 bayonets. Guess CMP doesn't miss collecting a payment on what they ship out  . Think I might sell or trade the PAL. I got the Oneida since we use silverware made by them and I figured I could tell the wife "Look, I got another piece that goes with our silverware" :lol4: . The Rock Island is for my 1903 that was made by Rock Island Armory  .

Found a good article about the start of Oneida, and the Oneida Community in particular. Paragraph 12 is where is starts getting really interesting...

I just read that paragraph 12... but in paragraph 13 it says about Noyes "his wife Harriet in the first six years of their marriage".
I guess since he was the so-called leader the rules didn't apply to him.
In other words, the normal way things are done in a cult. LoL

(How did we get SOOO far off topic!?) LoL

Ha yeah my bad. It explains earlier on in the article a bit. Paragraph 12 was just relevant to my question earlier in the thread regarding whether this was indeed the same Oneida company that made silverware making these bayonets.

I just like to tell people about that community anytime someone mentions Oneida silverware....it's just one of those fun facts everyone should hear about. Back to topic now I suppose ha
