Thanks, captain.
I just found where y'all had been discussing this on the MS Gun Laws section of this board, guess I should have checked there first!
Ms.Code 97-37-31 clearly states " or armor piercing ammunition as defined in federal law".

Fed Law states cannot be used in handguns. Exempts 30-06.
Ok, so magnum research make a 30.06 pistol now. How about we ban ALL armor piercing ammo just to make it simple. eh?

Maadi griffin made a 50bmg pistol a while back. They were one if the first 50bmg rifle makers. They sold completed guns and kits. They were shut down by the feds for selling 50 rifle kits that the feds claimed were not kits but complete firearms, even though the user had to mill out the receivers and more to fit them. It was actually because their owner was a outspoken opponent of gun control laws and Klinton. Hard to find info about the pistols now. Perhaps there are no shooters left to shoot them any more - or all the guns blew up. Who knows? Here's one page with a pic.

I have the AYR lot.

After a case head rupture I am going to be pulling it.

I am not hearing good things on the interior case condition.

You are right., but I hope the case rupture is small, otherwise you may lose the stock on the rifle. I believe this is Danish. Good luck,

Doug
Hey Capt,

What year of manufacture is the ammo?

Doug
Hoping mine arrives today or tomorrow. Order was placed 5/8/10

What was your order date?
I picked it up at the store the day it sold out. I got a bunch of it too.
lot 23. ayr 55
it chrono's 2800 - 2890 fps

The head has 6 holes in it. I will dig up the pictures soon. I want to dissect some of the cases to look at the thickness.
Rumor has the powder might have had too much moisture upon loading.

I am just going to start pulling it apart, and drying the powder out and making new ammo with non-corrosive primers.
Ive had good luck fixing the dented HXP spam can ammo this way.

Anyone have 3-4k CCI large rifle primers they want to hook me up with?

The barrel on my gun oi older than the ammo, but I have never had a case rupture, stuck or anything, and I shoot mainly reloads..

I got mine last Friday. 3 cans, 1 was AYR 23 and the other two were AYR 27. Was hoping for non-corrosive, but oh well. I don't plan on doing anything with them for a while except for giving them a good home.

Well THERE'S your problem.
I dont know if it is just weak brass or an out of battery firing. Maybe the hammer didnt catch something and fell while the bolt was riding home. (I am very unfamiliar with an M1 trigger.... never had to take one apart)

Maybe the round was hot? It sure did knick my chamber up though. Ever spot the brass broke through you can see on the chamber.
If you guys want a treat start pulling it, you will find a suprise.

After pulling 300 rounds I have found 15 or more that have wet powder and some serious interior corrosion. 2 of those rounds showed corrosion on the outside., around the neck. The corrosion was flaking out and coming out with the powder.

Whatever has contaminated the powder smells very noxious. If you have ever got a good whiff of chlorine, might bring back some memories. Kind of burned my nostrils and the smell stuck around a while.

As for how to reload it... 51-52 grains seems to be the factory load.
I am going try a few at -10% with some CCI LR primers in HXP/LC cases.

Did you notice what lot number the corroded rounds came from?

As I am not equipped to reload, This ammo will sit in the safe for a while most likely.
I tested some reloads in LC cases with CCI LR primers ( LC 69, also from CMP).

OAL was 3.330 +/- .001 with no crimp.
cases were 2.484

46.5 grains of the AYR powder yielded velocties 2530
48 grains was 2625 or so +/- 25 fps.
-no signs of overpressure. Necks were sooty indicated the loads were too light.

I have some loaded at 49 grains. The powder still shakes.
will post chrono data once I shoot

I want the reloads to go 2750 max with no pressure signs and it is looking good, sans knocking all this stuff apart.

I also plan to dry the powder out on a good sunny day to see if that increases velocities. The charges would be alot faster if the powder was IMR 4064 or 4895. might try going to a magnum primer, because having some extra powder would be nice.

Lastest update from CMP

BELTED .30-06 AMMO: CMP now has a small quantity of .30-06 belted ammo. M2 Ball, .30-06, Belted in 250 rd Ammo cloth belts, in .30 cal cans. Manufactured by Kynoch Works (British). 4C3006B200-250P. Corrosive primers. Manufactured 50-53. Weight 18 lbs per can. S&H per can - $9.95. See the ammunition tab on Estore at https://estore.odcmp.com

I have seen 2 1903-A3 rifles blown up because of Kynoch .30-06 M2 Ball manufactured 1959-60. I wonder if they have tested this ammo? The brass cases had poor annealing and the heads split and blew the stocks off the rifles. This can also happen with any manufacutrer of Korean .30 M2 Ball. The French made .30 M2 Ball and the same problem is apparent in their ammo. In Pike County the French ammo destroyed a Rem 760 Pump and a Rem 700ADL. The 700 had the stock blown off it. The 760 had the action swelled and jammed. I observed these rifles personally. Remember, the CMP was offering Korean .30 M2 Ball for sale and recommending it's use until the guns started to blow up.

The Korean ammo has blown up 6 M1 rifles and 5 1903 rifles that I am aware of.

Below, is a photo of a nice M1 that was fired with Korean PS headstamped .30-M2 Ball ammo. Everyone should consider reloading ammo before using foreign military ball ammo. The rifle would probably be serviceable with the addition of a new stock. Can you imagine the flinchitis you would have after an incident like this.

Hi i just joined up after finding this post. I have a 1952 H&R M1 and have Ammo loaded in boxes marked BALL M2 Caliber .30 LOT PS - 2-144 and the rounds them selves are all marked PS 75. I've put about 160 rounds of it down range over the last few years and have 152 rounds left. I myself have not had any issues so far with the ammo but you've now got me worried. My Garand is my pride & joy out of my collection so I don't want to risk blowing it to hell. Should i junk the ammo and the brass ive saved for reloading? or is it just a certain year of the PS ammo?
