My dad has always used a Rem 742 woodmaster .30-06 for deer. He found a Rem 7400 in .270 for me awhile back and i paid $80 for it. It had been sittin in a guys gun cabinet for several years and he had no use for it. Im sure if my dad wouldnt have found that .270 rifle, id be shootin a .30-06.

All our hunts, when i was growing up, were all on our familys land and the longest shot was maybe 150 yards. So the Semiauto rifles were plenty accurate. I became friends with a buddy in high school that has the big farm and my semiauto just wouldnt cut it shootin way on out there. Since i already had a bunch of .270 bullets i just got a Rem 700 in .270 since thats what my friend had and he has made 400+yard shots on deer and dropped them in their tracks.

My Rem 700 SPS in .270 has shot better than i ever thought it would with submoa groups out to 400 yards.

My dad loves his .30-06 and always wanted a M1 Garand, so hopefully next week ill be able to have him one thanks to the CMP.

I also have a Thompson center pro hunter .270 and Rem 700 .270 that I deer hunt with.
These are 2 of my favorites.
