Here is my Savage 300Win Mag I am working with and developing loads for this hunting season. I have use the 300Win in a Model 70 Super Grade in 93-95 and a 300Win Mag in a Ruger MK II Stainles from 97-2001 and loved them. Actually liked it better than my 300Wby cartridge and it is pretty even with how I feel about the 300Win Mag and the 30-06.

I have decided to build on my load work and hunting experience using the 300Win Mag with this Savage 116 FHSS (Accutrigger/Accustock) with a Bushnell 4200 with a Weaver 20MOA base and Weaver tactical rings, for this years hunting so I can finish an article I started two years ago.

This rifle will be fully capable of letting me hunt in any weather. I won't have to worry about rain on my rifle or my scope fogging up about the time I want to take a shot, which has happened to me down here in South Mississippi and I did not get my scope clear of the condensation in time to take the shot on a gas line right of way. Will be practicing out to 600yds with GB300wm for longer shots this year.

But hear are some pictures of the rifle and targets to show where I am at the moment with more targets and load info to follow in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Targets will be on next post.

It is not favoring the heavier bullets at the moment but in about another 200 rounds are so through this rifle it just might get friendly toward the 210 Berger and 208 A-Max.

210gr Berger four shot group

180gr Ballistic Tip

165gr Sierra HPBT three shot group with H4350 at 3057fps

165gr Sierra HPBT using H1000 at 3118fps five shot group I pulled the 2nd and 3rd rounds and called them when I did trying to get use to the Accutrigger.

165gr Sierra HPBT using H1000 at 3123fps five shot group and I pulled the 1st round and called it, still the trigger but I am getting better with it.

Will be doing more load work and need to hurry to have my self ready for hunting season. The trip I take to GB300wm's place to shoot 400, 500 and 600 is a biggy, I need to be ready with a load.

Try some RL 22 in it.
I did and it did not preform good with 165, 180, 208 and 210, infact it was the worst of the powder I tried when it came to accuracy. RL-25, H1000, H4350 and IMR4350 have given best results so far. Of course this is a work in progress. Who knows it might work well with the 190gr SMK that I am fixing to try.

Thanks captian, I just can't wait to shoot a five shot group where I don't blow a shot or two. That is so frustrating after you do all the work on your loads perfecting them to the best of your ability to shoot consistently and then to loose focus for a split second and pull one or two. But that is part of shooting and that is what gets me back to the bench. Sure is fun trying to get your rifle and yourself to do well. It all pays off in the field, because the tighter the group the better are my chances to put the bullet right where I want it to go with confidence and no second guessing.

Beautiful gun. I always thought Bushnell was a middle of the road scope (have a few so not knocking it). That's a good looking scope. Are they making them that much better or do they keep the nice ones on the top shelf away from us low rent fella's.

The 4200 actually draws in more light than any other scope on the market but not quite the edge to edge of the expensive scopes in definition.

I like the 4200 for five reasons. 1. It is a very bright scope for the money spent. 2. It can really take a lot of punishment from recoil and still stay together. 3. It tracks very well and moves exactly how and where I expect it to move. 4. It has rain guard which really comes in handy in a great number of the places I hunt. 5. For the money spent I think it is one of the best deals in hunting scopes today.

Very nice Mr. Bullet. I like them rings. They just look bad to the bone. How do you like the accu-trigger?
I am getting use to it and liking it more all the time. One thing for sure with the Accutrigger on my rifle, you can not guess or think you know when it is going to fall, because you can't tell. It really makes me focus on trigger squeeze while keeping my thoughts on my target picture, which is how it ought to be.

My savage loves the 210gr Bergers.. 70.5gs H4831, Win Primer, seated out to 3.545" (2850fps) and it will do a 1 5/8" group at 300yds no problem.
I almost (yea i know) hit a crow a lil over 1000yds with mine a few weeks ago. If it would have been a fat crow it would have been a hit.. but the skinny crow eluded the 210grs of furry..

Mine is a old savage action, i put a Rifle Basix trigger in it and its very consistant.. I just put my finger on it and slowly apply pressure, it scares me everytime it goes off :D
