I have been wanting to get/make a subsonic rifle for a while now. I have been reading a few posts about this and need some advice. I was thinking about getting a cheap stevens rifle and rebarrel it to a 1:8 twist. I would then take that to a gun smith and have him cut the barrel to 18 inches and thread it for a can. Is that all I would need to do?

Thats it. I would start the transfer process for the can as you start the build...because it will take a while.

I was wanting to use a 205gr A-max. Some folks on another forum said that they had problems with the .308 sub, said the case was too big for 9 grains of powder. They said the 300 whisper would be a better idea, but I don't know how hard the ammo would be to make for it.

9 grains of trailboss fill the case nicely.
i have some 208 Amax i was gonna try, they suppose to be able to expand very good at low velocities.
