So what kinda ammo/load do you prefer?

    Light and fast?

    Medium and medium?

    Heavy and slow?

I'm working with a 18" 11 twist barrel so I'm gonna try some 125gr loads to tinker with since I got a bunch for cheap.
Mainly want something to bust coyotes and stuff with. If they will group good around 2900 fps it should be a nice load.

I've got thousands of 175 smk and 165 sst. But that's gonna fall back on before I wear the barrel out.

Light and fast for flatter trajectory inside 4-500. Heavier and slower for less wind drift past 4-500 due to the higher BC.

^^^What he said. For hunting, I preferred a light little bullet in 308.

Nonnie, I just got my 308 up & going pretty good. It's got a 22" 1&10 barrel on it. I settled in on two loads. Sierra 168 mk's & 185 berger juggernauts. The Sierra's grouped a tad better than the bergers from a 100 yard zero out to 700 yards. But at 1000 yards there was no comparison. The juggernauts out shined the MKs by a large margin. Running the juggernauts kind of slow at 2500 fps but man their accurate way out there. LB

I scored some 125 grain TMKs for cheap so i got 2000 of them to tinker with. Also have some 125 SST and 125 Sierra Pro Hunters and 125 grain Nosler BT's.

I did load up another 200 147gr FMJs last night just to blast with. But for this rifle i doubt id take it past 400 yards unless it just shot really good.

I loaded 185gr Berger Classic Hunters in my boss 308 and they shot amazing out to 600 yards. But i never had any luck with any of the 168gr bullets in any of my 308s, the 175s always shot better.

I could never get the 168 smk or the ncc to shoot near as good as the 175 smk either. 150 gamekings shoot very good out of my 18" 308. I cut a 22in savage barrel down and put on a receiver I already had. 168's do not shoot well out of it either...?

some of the smallest groups I have ever shot out of a .308 was with the 165 grain speer boattaail spire point over 47 grains of reloader 15 and federal gold match primers1/10th inch groups are common

I've been shooting 180 gr Game Kings for years. They work very well on deer. The trajectory is less than impressive though. I don't think they'd work well in your 18" barrel.

    150-165 gr is a good do-all weight.

Hunting. 125 will make good velocity out of a short barrel at short to mid range with less recoil. If I'm killing paper, heavy every time.

What powder did you have good luck with the 125s?

Just loaded 20 rds of 8208 xbr under the Sierra Pro Hunter 125's, 44.8 grns, 210m's, 2.706 coal. The 125 and 150's are my favorite in the 20" Tikka / 1:12 twist, .308.

    Is 44.8 a light load?
I see hodgdon list their min at 46 and max at 49.2 with the 125 Seirra 125 2.700"
