Anyone had any experiance with one of these?? I have been wanting to add it to my encore collection.. The specs on these suckers are sweet. A 357mag will sling a 125gr gold dot 1400fps making 500ft/lbs. The maximum will sling it 2400 fps making 1600ft/lbs(more than a 44mag,454, and some 460's and 500's. The cases are .315 longer. I have heard of people getting 2 inch groups at 200 yards with MGM barrels

We used to shoot boxes of computer paper and then open it up to see the wound channel. A .45 230 fmj went through it but nothing else. Guy came out with an encore 357 max (bullet was about the size of a .410, little slimmer). He was shooting hollow points and put one right through a box. Only hollow point to go all the way through. Huge wound channel.

It will shoot .357 mags also, won't it?
If I'm not mistaken, the .357 max will also shoot the .357 mags and .38 specials..... :gun2:
i do believe you are correct sir!

like the 445 will shoot 44 mag and special

and from what i understand, a 460 roland (at least the dan wesson i saw on auction arms not long ago will shoot 45acp, 45LC, 454 cassull, and one other one, as well as the 460 roland. now THATS versatile!!

I have a 16 1/4 SS Contender barrel (1-14 twist) ordered from MGM. Should be here mid July and I will use for deer hunting. Right now MGM has a 8 week waiting period. This length barrel I can us as a rifle or pistol. Tried the 38-55 in a H&R and a 45-70 in a Contender and wasn't really what I wanted. So to answer your question, no experience, but will have starting when I get it here. From all the research I did this should be a keeper. Already have everything to start loading my ammo. I will be shooting Hornady 180 XTP or 180 SSP bullets for deer. Here's some good info.>>> http://357maximum.com/
I'll let you know how it shoots.

How much did that MGM barrel set you back? SSK has been my barrel maker for my encore forever. I love them to death but that $650-750 price tag gets a little expensive. My primitive weapon bullet is a 375jdj made by them, the 357max should have way less drop and maybe not do as much meat damage.. I want reports when you get it!

The barrel was $395.00. I think you would be well satisfied with the MGM barrels. I have 2 other barrels (204 Ruger & 223) from them and they're great shooters. I also have 3 SSK barrels, a 14" 6mmJDJ, 20" 6.5JDJ and 14" 358JDJ. Like you said the SSK's are pricey which I bought all mine used. Probably will sell the 358JDJ this fall if I like the Max.

Here's MGM web site>> http://www.matchgrademachine.com/gunshop/

Where you located??

Well maybe not better but I like Contenders better. The older I get the more recoil sensitive I get!! LOL, Done had all the heavy kickers!! Killed my first handgun deer last winter with my 6mmJDJ 14" barrel. I like a challenge!! and handgun hunting is addictive.

I have the following Encore Barrels, a Virgin Valley 24" 223, 24" TC Custom Shop 260 Rem , TC 24" 243 and a SS 50cal. MZ.
