I had a Taurus 609 (Brazilian imported by Academy Sports) for a while. It felt great, shot great. I ran several hundred rounds through it and the only misfire was a defective cartridge. It was less than $300.
When I have checked prices the Rugers seemed to be the lowest on American made. I saw a Springfield GI that was new for around 500. If you buy a quality used gun at a good price, you could always trade up later.Lot of owners on here, mabey someone has a good used 45 that they might part with. PM me about your price range and if you have anything to trade. Best, MM
Grab you a s&w sigma 40($299 at academy on sale), the trigger everyone gripes about is easy to fix... ive done several now. Mine feels like a glock with a 3.5lb connector now.
Go with the 40 if at all possible. I retired from Law Enf. last year and have carried both for years and would take nothing for my glock 40 which was presented to me after retirement. You can't go wrong with either tho..
I had a Taurus pt111 9mm for a while that I enjoyed. I never carried it concealed cause I didn't have my permit but it was a good size for it. The 40 and 45 in that series are pretty comparable size wise. I got the 9mm for a little over 400 out the door.
I had a S&W M&P 40 for a while that I really enjoyed but got offered more than I had in it and sold it.
Rock Island makes very good 1911's for the price.
Like others said, go with 40 over 45 if funds are limited.....much cheaper to shoot.
I love my 24/7 in .45, as do my wife and oldest daughter.
Comes in 9mm and .40 as well. If you want better concealment, look at the 24/7 Pro & Pro C...and even smaller Millennium series. Prices between $350-550
