I have a S&W Mdl 29 just like that. We shoot at long distances like that as well. Lots of fun, and like he says, not that hard once you get your hold over down. He puts out some good stuff.

It is fun to take pot-shots at long range targets with a handgun. Estimate the hold-over and let them fly. Hits bring a smile to your face......

There are some videos on youtube somewhere of a guy hitting the gong at 1000 yards with a 38-55 marlin cowboy with iron sights. Really cool, those long range, iron sight videos. Love the handgun ones!
