I decided pierced primers with H110 and Hornady .325 FTX wasn't the best. Changed up to Lil'Gun. 3 each of 27gr, 28gr, and 29gr. Time to send 'em and chrono to see which is best for the Diamondback. Hoping for zero pressure issues. Otherwise I'm gonna need to get a place in the country. Cause this back and forth is cutting into my profits!

4227 has been my go to powder for nearly anything 458 socom. I WAS trying others, but since loading has been so expensive and I seldom have the time…..I didn’t get far.

I can guarantee H110 ain't in the game! 🤪 I'm trying to keep the fps as high as possible while cutting holes at 100yds. It's not my rifle, but I'm searching for the sweet spot as if it were mine. The owner couldn't give two 5hits. He just wants to cut down trees after a bad day rebuilding ship motors. BIG POW leaving gun intact would keep me in business, but my perfectionism won't let me accept mediocre. I'll grab some 4227 tomorrow. What's the start for .325 FTX'S?

@Rommerdale i have no idea. I was using it from 320gn to 600gn and the only thing I can recall for loading info is fuzzy and I dare not rely on my memory. I want to say I was at 26/27gn under a gas checked 500gn lead cast.
I have a loading and casting tread here,I’llgo look for it.

Be careful with Lil"Gun !!! It burns hot and I burned up a forcing cone on a Ruger that lead to having
to have the gun replaced when Ruger did not have the ability to replace the barrel due to the age of
the gun.

Tagged you in my rambling tread.
Ellis, Man! I sure was bragging on you at Turcotte earlier! This 4227 was made for the SOCOM. It took me a min to work things out because I was also sighting in a scope the rifle owner brought to me...2 months ago...

After an exhaustive attempt at making my new shot camera work for the crowd of onlookers, I didn't bother with the chrono. Gonna have to make some mods to the ammo can to make it accomodate happy ground (it had a wave for everyone/very unlevel). I was glad the RO was excited to see it work though.

After trying 4 times (with no luck) to hit the target at 50yds., I gave in to my ego and moved it to 20yds. to get the scope roughly sighted in with the lil'gun loads. Then I boldly advanced the target to 100yds. and here is the result! 27gr IMR 4227 with the 325gr FTX is DEFINITELY a sweet spot for this Diamondback. Thank you so much for the solid advise! I owe you some whiskey.

No problem……just paying forward the assistance I’ve received from another (you know who you are) member.
AA1680 does good as well, and I was tinkering with 4198………but the best powder I’ve found for this round has been 4227 hands down. Hardly any pressure signs and the cases stay fairly clean (depending on how the gas system and buffer weight/spring) along with the gun itself.
Personally…..I have never had any luck with lil gun or h110 in nearly anything. Too picky of a powder for my taste.
For that matter I have 6/7 powders that I actually like and keep a good supply of.

Those to me are good to go from shot shells to pistol/rifle loads. There are a few more that work well in rifle but only in certain cases.

Camera did not work. 😥. I'll need to do some more R&D at home so I don't look like a slobbering fool at the range again. Not a good look for an IT guy. I think the the target was too bright. It was about 2pm when I got to the rifle range. This time of year, EVERYTHING is lit across the whole rifle range. The camera would not acquire the reference image.
