I'm wanting to change my a2 post sight for a low profile or rail gas block.

Depends on who made the barrel. Some manufacturers used straight pins and some used tapered. If tapered drive them out left to right. Blocking the barrel and sight post will make it easier and prevent the sight post from walking around the barrel. Its not hard at all.

Or just take it to an armorer.

It's a DPMS AP4 Do you know if they are tapered and will removing the sight scar up the barrel finish.

DPMS should be straight pins (non tapered) and come out either way but I still remove them left to right as looking down the barrel. As long as the post is blocked there should not be substantial scaring. only where the pins were. Trick is lining up the new gas block. thats more critical than removing the post.

Got it removed last night. After punching out the pins a couple gentle taps with a hammer and it came right off. Nothin to it.

Unless you try to cut M4 feedramps into a barrel extension, with a dremel.
Turns out that metal is hardened.
