Here's something I know to do but often don't because of lazyness.

You have a modern high cap pistol with a 15 round mag.

You go out for dinner or something.

1. How many of you have a mag in the gun but don't have a round in the pipe?

2. Ok...some of you have one loaded in the pipe....do you carry a spare mag?

3. OK...You have a high cap pistol. You loaded one in the pipe...you even carry a spare mag..
How many of you drop the current mag and top it off... or put the fully loaded spare back in the gun and the mag that is minus one in your pocket?

Why would you want to be in harms way and not be fully loaded?

For you wheel gun guys...How many of you carry speed strips or speedloaders with you.?

4. How many of you practice mag changes, speed loads, tactical reloads and speed strip reloads as part of dry fire.

Yeah......... I thought so.............. :pale:

If I carry my gun, it has a round in the chamber. The mag in the gun it one short. That way, if I have to unload the gun for whatever reason, I have a place to put the round from the chamber. I always carry a spare mag, fully loaded.

That leads me to a question I have wondered for a while. Why do we feel naked carrying a gun and not a spare mag? I carry a 1911 mostly. The rounds in the gun plus the mag total 14. I also carry my taurus, 15 round mags. One mag of the taurus is more than both mags of the 1911, but I always carry a spare mag. I feel fine with 14 rounds and the 1911, but not fine with just one mag in the taurus. Go figure.

Not making any judgement calls as to whether its better to have (17) 40 S&W's or 9mm vs eight 45ACP's...

what they "drilled" into our head @ GS is, when you made ready and racked one in the chamber, you immediately did a tac reload. The minus 1 mag when into the pocket, the fully loaded mag went into the gun.
If you did not do this when going into the "fun houses" or other drills later in the week they failed you on the drill.

The point is whatever weapon you have. Don't get lazy...Keep it fully "stoked"

That one extra round you leave home may save your life. I wear 5.11 tactical pants almost every day. A spare mag holder pocket is right there....why's my excuse for not using it?....

And the carrying of spare ammo applies to the revolver folks as well.

We will see what others confess to.

I carry my autoloader fully loaded with at LEAST 1 spare mag. Usually 2. When I carry a revolver, it's fully loaded and I carry 3 speedloaders. (cause Dirty Eastwood always did) I practice clip changes and revolver speedloading each time I dry fire.

Welcome Magnum man...Hat's off to ya :tophat:

I'm not preaching here...just pointing out one of my faults..

I'm hoping we can encourage others who may have gotten a little slack in their methods to tighten up a bit
