All of a sudden, I've got a hankering for a retro AR-15. Anyone here built one?

I see various kits with all of the parts except for the lower receiver. Anyone have experience with these kits that you recommend?

Show us your pics of your retro build if you got 'em.

THANKS!!

..................... I really like the old look.
Yeah..... there is something about the trianglar handguard and thin barrel that has a place in my heart too.

But then again, I remember all those news videos of the Vietnam War as it was happening. That war ended in April of '75 and I graduated HS in June of '75.

June of '75 I bought a used Colt SP1 with about 200rds of ammo and Colt 4X scope for $250. I was so proud of that gun. Took it to college and it got stolen. Found another Colt SP1 for $200 and still have it. One of my babies..................

I also like the looks of the thin barrel and triangular handguards. I've started two retro style AR's but haven't finished them yet. I found a complete unfired Colt upper with a teardop forward assist and no deflector. I went ahead and assembled it on a standard lower until I could find the parts I wanted.

I'm going to sell this one if I can since I've found another Colt upper without the forward assist or deflector. All I need to finish it is a slick side lower. I haven't had any luck finding a Colt so I may have to get a Nodak.

Are the original Colts worth more if they are in excellent condition? I have one that my Dad gave me around 20 years ago that I would not sell but was curious about the value. It is accurate, I have shot it at 100 yards with stock sights and I was surprised at the accuracy. Back then there was not the popularity that there is today.
