Might want to research the Para a bit before making a decision. I've heard some good and a lot of bad concerning Paras. Never owned one, so I can't speak with any real knowledge, but I've read a few bad reports about them around here. Hopefully, one of the owners will chime in with a better report or you could try a search.

The complaints really started piling in when it became Para USA it seems. I'd also check the para subforum on 1911forum.com for more reviews and experiences.

I have one; I started a thread on this back when I was contemplating the purchase. Since then I have put 800+ rounds through it, mostly Fed and Win FMJ but also Speer Gold Dot JHP with not one single malfunction. It is a basic .45 ACP, 1911 pistol, not a competition gun, but that is what I wanted. Here is what I did this afternoon, firing at 10yds rapid fire, 8rds Speer Gold Dot JHP:

(sorry it's sideways forgot to orient it on the camera)
and here is the thread on this forum prior to / since my purchase:

In summary, I recommend this pistol for a utilitarian .45 ACP. If you want to compete, you need to get a competition pistol. But you won't go wrong with this one for a SD or recreational 1911 pistol, in my opinion-which is of course worth what you paid for it! Good Luck!

A friend's son who is in the 82nd Airborne bought a special edition Para that they made just for them, all engraved and marked for the 82nd.

So far, it's a piece of junk: Failures to feed, fire, extract, eject....the whole nine.

It's headed back to the factory as we speak.

Really disappointed me too, as I've always heard Para made a first-rate product.

:eyeroll:

That's really weird. Another club member who shoots HP rifle with us liked mine so much he bought one a week after I did; he also has not had a single malfunction of any kind. Is your friend's son shooting factory ammunition? Mine is smooth as glass and has never hiccuped.

I've had my Para "Big Hawg" hi-cap for about a year now. I've never had a hiccup out of it. Seems that the bad reports are for the occasional lemon that comes out of mass production. Personally I'd say go for the Para because they have great customer service and resolve issues fairly quickly. However thats just my experience.

He says all he's shot in it is several different brands of 230 gr. hardball. You'd think any 1911 would run that without a hiccup. His IS a hi-cap, don't know if that makes a diff., but Para has been building hi-caps for ages - you wouldn't think it would matter.

He just got a bad one. That can happen with anything I suppose. From what I've heard of Para, I have every confidence that they'll straighten it out or replace it with a new one.

:idk:
