Ammo is cheap so I don't know if it's even worth reloading. I just bought my old sks back from my brother in-law so I'm back in the 7.62 game. I'm gonna try to get the best distance out of this as I can so I'd like some decent quality ammo. Any ideas? Thanks.

Lotsof different 7.62 type ammo out there .... I take it from your post (SKS) you are making reference to the 7.62x39? If so, yes I do reload for it. Actually, I have starting casting for the 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R.

Reloading will give you the best hunting type rounds. Milsurp is just fine for range fodder ...

I figured the store bought ammo is good enough for the range but I dont know how good it is for accuracy at any distance. I'll see about reloading it, cost and the amount I shoot will dictate. Thanks for the info.

7.62x39. It's the standard SKS/AK round.

I have RCBS dies that I bought many years ago that include both the .308 and .311 expander. I got them on sale because of the price since I didn't own a 7.62x39 gun at the time.

Over the recent years I have rat-holed a few hundred pieces of reloadable brass and 2000 - 123gr FMJ (.311) bullets.

I keep an eye out for a $cheap$ 7.62x39 bolt-action rifle just to play with reloading the ammo for "accuracy"....

Thanks for the info Sub. So reloading the 7.62 I just use the same dies as for a .308? For now I will just be using the cheapest ammo I can find since I just want to put rounds down range. I need to get rid of the "grenade launcher" and replace it with a brake.

NO, NO!! the .308 and 7.62x39 are completely different animals!! You will need a set of 7.62x39 dies ... SGF is just talking about the expander balls in a set of 7.62x39 dies ... (BTW: I need that .311 expander!!).

You must have a Yugo SKS if it has the grenade launcher! Let me know how the removal goes .. I have one I just can not get off!!

Ahh I figured they were different but I didn't know. I'm new to the 7.62 world.

Yea it's a Yugo, I read an article on it on the net and they said it wasn't fun. It already has a synthetic stock so the bayo is gone. I'll throw some pics of it up, it's kinda new to me ha. It was mine before and I sold it to my brother in law and now I have it back.
