I have a basic working knowledge of ar-15s but am by no means an expert. I'm looking to buy some basic armorer's tools and will probably be building one from the ground up in the future. Are there any kits that don't cost a small fortune that you'd recommend. If not, what basic tools would you recommend buying separately. I've seen some bad reviews on Midwayusa.com regarding some of the multitools. What are your experiences? What shouldn't I waste my money on?

You might want to consider getting a set of small parts in case one of the springs and detents flies off into that black hole never to be found again.

And I would highly recommend a punch set

These plus a combo wrench for the barrel, buttstock, etc. I've got a cheap NC star that works fine.
Action Blocks
Front sight block

The folding multi-tools are good for range bags.
