So, a good friend of mine calls the other day and tells me he wants to buy an AR-15 with tax return money. Given his lack of computer skills and our limited knowledge on AR-15s, i figured i would ping the vast collective of MSGO knowledge for some advise and answers.

1. What is the best brand of AR-15? (in your opinion)

2. What is the approx cost of an AR-15?

3. What is the best place to purchase one at? (opinion)

4. Is one brand more modifiable than others, if so, which ones?

Thanks in advance guys............and ladys.

Ive had an AR from bushmaster, built several from parts kits from del-ton and peiced some together from assorted parts and so forth.

If i was gonna do it again id build all them from a kit or piece them together with the parts i like.

Get a plum crazy complete lower for $150 and build the upper the way you want it. I was unsure about the polymer lowers at first but now I love mine. Can't beat it for the price. He should be able to get a nice AR for less than $650

I have Bushmaster Carbon-15s with a collapsible stock, Bushnell Trophy red dot sight, mounts, scope cover, haze filter, sun shade, battery, etc., 2 mags, sling, owners manual all in a plastic foam lined hard case for $699, new-unused. Also have 2 different flat top DPMS carbines new in the hard case for $649 and $699. It's tough to build one for that using all new stuff, plus these have a full factory warranty. I've got 10 or so different stripped lowers mostly at $109 to $154. Complete DPMS or Bushmaster lower parts kits are $64 if you want to roll your own...Also have about 30 other complete ARs in stock. It's worth a look!
Thanks, Mike/SSS

I almost forgot, as for the Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT) ARs I have a few left of a special run of 500 manufactured by LMT for Coastal Gun in M4 configuration, no carrying handle, for $840. With carrying handle for $919 or with a Matech BUIS for $940. These do have a chrome lined barrel.
Thanks,
Mike/SSS

I have a Rock River AR15A2 NM and I am more pleased with it than either the Bushmaster NM or Colt H Bar that was accurized by Compass Lake that I used to have. It is my favorite HP rifle.

Doug
I also have a Rock River Arms in the Entry Tactical model with the two stage trigger. Never had a single problem and fires anything you feed it steel and brass.

Larue!

the answer depends on what you want to do

drive tacks
light carry
shtf
long range short range
heavy or light bullets
all around do everything

Rock River seems to be very popular and has a good rep as being one of the best off the rack you can buy

After that they all get pricy
Ruger's ar is piston driven(AK style vs direct gas impingement with gas going into the bolt area making it foul up faster.) which has its benefits but some don't like
POF, NOVESKY, Sun Devil make some sweet stuff too

I built a few and its a blast but by the time you buy all the stuff it is probably cheaper to just order or buy one off the rack
