Whats the best scope for plinking with an AR15?
I put a Nikon 3x9 tailored for the .223/5.56 on mine and it seems to work well. The mil-dot reticle works OK as far as I can tell, though I haven't tried it past 300 yards.
I love my aimpoint pro with PA 3x flip magnifier on it. Covers close to medium range I usually plink at. My other favorite is my holosun red dot on my 10.5".
Might, skim thru older threads on this subject, might get broader view. Depending on how you want to plink , target wise.
The only one of mine that is scoped has a vortex diamondback 2-7x35, i like it a lot.. better than the nikon p223 i had on my last scoped one.
I am probably going to sell my other vortex soon, same model as above. New never mounted.
I run a Vortex Viper 1-4x24 PST on mine, the scope has an
illuminated reticle that comes in handy when light levels
are low. The newer Gen 2 Vipers have a bit more
magnification range that goes up to 1-6x but are a lot
more costly though both Gen1 and Gen2 use a 30mm
main tube and light gathering is great with mine.
It all depends on what your wanting to plink at.
I run one of these and its by far my favorite.
2.5 is low enough power to see up close and 10x was enough to take a couple does out to 520 yards.

Trijicon MRO (2 moa red dot) has kept me happy for the last 1.5 years or so.
Run an EOTech 516 on mine; no multiplyer yet, so don't try to take it out over 100 yards. Target acquisition is quick and field of view is nice. It also co-witnesses with the iron sights.
