Beware of Over Seas ammo!!!

I recevied this email from my wife's dad in Texas.

Subject: S&W .44 mag. accident
This is why you buy AMERICAN and or re-load your own!
S&W .44 Magnum accident
First it was baby formula, then pet food but now you
should watch out when buying anything from China,
including bright, shiny ammunition.

A guy came into the police department the other day to ask a favor.
He had a S&W 629 (.44 Mag) that he wanted to dispose of after a mishap at the range.
He said there was a loud bang when he tested his new ammo, (Chinese made), and the
gun smacked him in the forehead, leaving a nice gash.
When the tweety birds cleared from around his head, the pictures show what he saw.
Bet he never uses Chinese made ammo again!
Looks like when the round in the chamber went off, it also set off at least two other rounds in adjacent cylinders.
I would have hated to been the one that pulled the trigger on that one!

As soon as I figure out how to attach a picture, I'll show you the pic of the blown up 44 mag.

Don't know if I have seen any ammo produced by China with the exception of some milsurp type stuff ... what brand names of ammo are produced in China and imported into the US?

I think there is no Chinese ammo around except for the remnants of the 7.62 x 39 stuff imported YEARS ago. That was actually pretty good stuff!

Re: Beware of Over Seas ammo!!!

Somebody on the forum you linked to suggested the bullet is a Hornady XTP. I'd be inclined to agree as I've got some just like it in my hand right now.

If you can find ANY Chinese ammo in .44 mag let me know. Then if you can find ANY commercial Chinese ammo in .44 mag that uses a Hornady XTP then I'll give you a five dollar bill.

I say it was a handload gone wrong. Yes, this is me calling BS.

Since the Chinese tried to import full auto AK-47 rifles in the late 1990's, there has been no importation of Chinese firearms or ammo into the USA.

That looks like a double charge of pistol powder to me.

Exactly....why would you spend that kind of money on a smith and then go put Chinese rounds(which as Doug said aren't imported anymore) into it....you're just asking for trouble

nasty, ruined a good pistol, a hand load gone bad, very bad. thats where when I load, I want NO distractions, especially pistol loading. home rolling is fun, but, it can also be costly. hope no one was hurt, but plenty of potential there to be seriously injured!
a good visual lesson for all us home rollers, BE CAREFUL!!
