i got mine fired up and running today.. i have to say when you get it set right and the temp just right you can freaking plow through some boolits!
question though... im getting three little dots of lube on the front of my swc.. whats the deal?

Aaaaaah..... the "poor man's" heater setup...............
The "3 dots" of lube means too much pressure in the lube tank. Increase the lube temperature and reduce the pressure. HINT: Might need a better heater..................

They are a few dollars cheaper than from Star, and a bit better from what I read on the forum.
A Lyman .452 sizer die @Midway is $23, the Star die from Lathesmith is $35 including shipping. So, not that much more than what I would have to buy Lymans for.

ordered magma heated base today and sent my sizer back to the prior owner. he is a machinest and said he could fix it for me. the part is pressed on over some knurling and apartly moving back and forth over time has ground out the inside. he said if he cant fix it he will machine out another replacement part and install it. = ) should be back in business by next weekSubGunFan said:

Hope it gets fixed correctly this time. I know waiting and then trying with the "failure", and now waiting some more is killing you. At least you had a small taste of how well a Star works.................

yea im pretty sure he will make it right. my little foot warmer wasnt cutting it it would either get it liquidy hot or hard cold = ( i never could get a happy medium lol FYI wax is its liquidy state burns like napalm! lol
question why do you feed pb boolits base first and bb boolits nose first? thought they were all supposed to feed nose down?

Yes, technically it is better nose first. However, PB bullets that have a little flashing on the bases (sprue plate too loose, pouring too fast, or lead too hot) leave an uneven edge on the base when fed nose first. As you should know.... a "clean/sharp" base edge is best for accuracy. Base edge is the last part of the bullet that leaves the muzzle just before the on rush of HIGH PRESSURE gasses. If the base edge is not uniform, the gases don't vent evenly, thus possibly "kicking" the bullet off course.
With BB bullets the base edge is not the very base of the bullet. The bevel separates the base edge from the base of the bullet. A little flashing on a BB bullet is no big deal (other than weight differences).
