OK!! SubGun Fan has blessed us with his experience in bullet casting by offering to conduct a bullet casting tutorial this Saturday starting around 8AM at the Magnolia Rifle & Pistol Club in Byram, MS. For those interested in the art of bullet casting, this is a great opportunity to learn the basics and see if this activity is for you!

The tutorial will cover: 1) casting alloys; 2) preparing alloys; 3) equipment needs; 4) mould types (rifle & pistol); 5) casting methods; 6) sizing methods; 7) lubing methods; and 8) casting safety!! All topics will be addressed using actual equipment and will feature actual bullet casting, sizing, and lubing.

All MSGO members are welcome to participate. If you have some lead (wheel weights, old fishing weights, scuba weights, lead flashing, etc, bring it!! You may get to leave with them turned into bullets!!

We know it is gonna be hot as blue blazes but this date was the most convenient for SGF, MsRedneck, and me. However, it should not be too bad with enough fans ....

Feel free to post any questions about the tutorial here on this thread. Now - who is coming?

I'm in. In fact I set-up my work schedule for this month around it. I only have one Saturday off in July and I used it for this. Is that dedication or what? :p

No lead, but you've been talking about propane so burn mine. I've got a tank or two I have no use for. Threw away my grill & gave away my fish cooker. Bringing a serious fan & some heavy cords, and Gatorade for SGF. Need to keep him "lubricated".

My wife thinks I'm crazy, so it must be a good idea! :lol4:

I'll come if the creek don't rise. No lead (guy at one tire place wanted $5 a lb for lead, I'll have to look around) so I'll bring some drinks (the melon gatorade is for Dan, holler if you like any other flavor, otherwise green and orange, case of that) and case of water iced down. I was thinking about a chair for my old arthitic knees and to be able to take notes if we have room. Other than that, long pants and shirt. And a towel (note to self).

'Necks In.....

Dang them .308's are turning me on !

who's bringing the lead then? :lol4:

we gonna make SGF get off his "stash" eh...

I'll be there with bells on...big fan , chords, gatorade and all the other stuff I got.

Now ya'll have had over a month to get some freaking wheel weights and other lead products together...scrounging should have started a long time ago :F1:

For the new folks coming...make sure you bring some thick gloves, long pants and shoes (no flip flops around the lead pot)....Hot lead don't play

we need a good turn out....SGF has been planning this a while...and don't forget bubbat made a bunch of nice tables to work off of.

This is a great chance to learn...Don't miss it :F1:

Bubbat, I saw those benches when I went to shoot steel. Very well done, sturdy as hell and good detail.
I'll try to get some lead from a friend. I can buy some but it's $5 a pound (wheel weights). Ya'll let me know and I'll stop by and get a lb or 2 if he's got that much.
Still don't know what a fair price is for unclean lead.

Sid, $5/lb for WWs in CRAZY STUPID. Don't waste your $$$$.

Guys, SORRY, but I can't make it this Saturday.................

GOTCHA ! ! ! Are you kidding? Captain & I have been working on this "SHOW" for months. I will be there with all my GEAR......

Yes, as for SAFETY, wear long pants and shoes (no flip-flops). T-shirts are OK. I will have jersey gloves for you guys to wear. Since it will be hot & humid, I suggest wearing sweatbands and/or bandannas. REMEMBER, water (sweat) and molten lead don't mix well......... Bring shooting/safety glasses.

If you can bring some raw lead, GREAT. But if you can't, don't worry about that. There will be some WWs there (plus other types of lead alloy). If you don't bring anything..... you are buying lunch....

Magnolia should have enough chairs, but bring some if you want to....

Don't forget your cameras if you take pictures........... Like ME...

Try to be there between 7:30 & 8:00 AM. We will be at it ALL day.

See you guys Saturday morning.

Do you have to be a member of Magnolia to attend?
No, but you do have to be a member of MSGO..... which you are. The gate will be open from 8 AM to about 9 AM.

Hey, you could drive your '65 Fastback Mustang to the range............. :)

Like all the others, if you can gather some wheel weights or other types of lead, bring it.

I think this was covered on the "Bullet Casting School" thread, but to re-post here.......

As I see it......... First we will setup to smelt the raw lead. I think we will setup at the West door of the building so we will be in the shade from the morning sun. Fans will blow the fumes away from us and out the door. The casting table can be setup at either door depending on the sun. Bullet sizing/lubing can be setup in the middle of the building (no fumes to deal with).

There is a chance for rain Saturday afternoon, but by then we should be sizing/lubing so the rain is not a factor. Maybe the clouds and rain will COOL things off for us..................

This will be both FUN and EDUCATIONAL for all of us. There are some "items" of bullet casting that I have not tried. I look forward to seeing those.

Again...... everyone attending will get hands-on time with all 3 phases (smelting, casting, sizing). The best part is.... you will get to see and try different types/levels of smelting-casting-sizing equipment.

Hey, bring a gun or 2 and ammo.... We might have time to shoot a little............
