Me and my brother were cleaning up some family property and found this old short sword buried in the ground. It has some markings on it but I can't make them out.

Looks like a Confederate Artillery short sword. There are lots of replicas out there but that one looks pretty old.

I've heard that called an Ames sword. Mainily used by artillery crews to clear brush. Look around, there's probably more stuff there!

Yeah we have found mini balls, and some other stuff so it being a artillery short sword make's sense. It looks like it has someone's initials scribed in the guard on one side looks like JWS and CSA on the other side but it kind of hard to make out.
