I'm not sure I spelled that right, but I want to give my 10/22 to my son for his 6th birthday. My dad bought it for me when I was 1 and now I think I should give it to my son. It is not in bad shape, just some minor rust pitting on the barrel.

I called Tupelo Custom Weaponry yesterday to ask about Duracoat. He is a "factory certified installer." However, he reccomended Cerakote. It is some sort of ceramic mixture. Anyway, he told me $125 to disassemble, clean, refinish and reassemble. That seems really reasonable to me, actually I was surprised at the amount. Is this a good price?

The stuff is hard as nails. When I bought my 6.8 upper it had a handguard with cerakote on it. Really tough stuff. Be aware though, the only way to remove cerakote is by bead blasting it off. Apparently there is no solvent that will remove it (without destroying the gun). Basically if you want to change it, you have to paint over it or put some other type of finish over it like durakote.

I take that as the product doing it's job! When I have my 1911 refinished, I don't want it ever coming off!
