I have the same rifle (981T). I bought it to have something that would feed Collibri (no powder) .22s. They are shorter than .22 LR and will not feed in magazine fed rifles or handguns. (Yeah, I know: they are made for revolvers.)

From the photos I cannot see all the problems the guy describes. And while the gouge on the crown looks bad---I doubt it affected performance.

Still, the guy is really good for a non-professional gunsmith. And, yes, brave to dig into it. But as he said, it's only a $180 rimfire...

Most I have done is cut a barrel on a shotgun. Not nearly as in depth as this was. I but like anything else, measure 3 times and cut once. :) I don't think it would be too hard. But like my offroad toys where I don't touch the brakes, on guns I don't touch the trigger. I'll try about anything else if I had to.

I would imagine the inaccuracy was the problem with the rifling. And while I will say I have herd of bad CS at marlin before I will say it isn't usually the norm. I think he caught someone having a bad day and I would have probably tried again. It isn't typical.
