What are your chances of getting a decent rifle if you buy online and have the CMP Kimber shipped to you? I don't have time or the inclination to take the six hour drive each way. Besides that the drive would add almost $100 to the cost of the rifle.

Shooter: I have been following the post on the CMP Board and also RimFireCentral about the Rusty Kimbers. Here is the worst I have seen:

http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=36913

For the difference between the $600 non-Rusty and the $400 Rusty, I would take the chance. With either, you may get a razor cut in the stock. I have looked at the $600 non-Rustys several times at the South Store and almost all of them had the razor cuts - So no difference in that category.

BTW: You may already know this, buy you can not order rifles via the CMP e-store. Must be done via mail in order form.

I did not know you couldn't order rifles on the E-Store. I've never tried it though. From what I have seen, and read, they seem to try to send a little better rifle to mail-in orders. I guess they feel that you don't have an oppurtunity to pick one out, they'll help you out.

You can NOT order rifles via the estore .. must be a mailed in order. They tried it once but is was a big screwup ... people could reserve a rifle via the estore and then send in the signed paperwork. People reserved them and never sent in the forms. From good authority, CMP does not handpick rifles for mail orders ... it is still "luck of the draw." The VAST majority of their rifles are sold via mail order. They only have two stores -- Anniston, AL and Camp Perry, OH.
