I have a Colt MK IV/SERIES'80 Mustang .380 auto. Usually carry as a BUG or primary if concealed means concealed. What are the pros and cons of how I carry this piece? Chambered, safety on/ or off, cocked, safety on. Someone with more experience with this please weigh in on this and educate me. Thanks, Bruce.

I was listening to "Gun Talk Radio" today coming home from the match in Byrum. The host had a caller ask the same thing about a 1911. The Mustang is basically the same gun, scaled down. He said any time he carries that style, he's carrying it "cocked & locked". He told the caller that what's important is to have the correct holster that completely covers the trigger guard and can contain the weapon "no matter what". Another caller said that the military teaches to carry with a loaded magazine but an empty chamber. I guess it just falls to what you're comfortable with.

Cocked and locked! It's just as safe as anything else out there. A good holster and you're set.
The military may want people to carry loaded mag empty chamber, but I'm not an idiot, and I want it ready when I need it. You start adding things to do when you need it, and you're toast.

As long as the gun has all its safety mechanisms in proper working order.

Cocked and locked....

Millions carried em in World War without any issue. Obey the 4 laws of gun safety and you should have no problems

Completely agree with "Cocked and Locked!" If you can't carry a weapon that is ready for use, why carry? I carry my Glock chambered. When I have carried a revolver, I keep every cylinder loaded. And, when I carry a 1911, it is Cocked and Locked.

Thanks guys, appreciate the responses. More comfortable with a ruger s.a. and a winchester lever action I guess. Too many cowboy movies growing up. lol. Will have to get a better holster for my mustang. Thats on my list. Thanks again, Bruce.
