Anybody here do much business with these guys? I'm heading to the gun show this weekend with the objective of buying a Kimber crimson carry and a Ruger SR9c. The guys at Dad's have both, and seem to have a good price on them, of course I will ask for a discount for buying the pair, just curious what to expect. So do I skip the show and head south, or do I try my haggling skills at the show?

Dad has can have good prices. I bought my TC Pro Hunter from there and got a pretty good price on it. They have a couple of salesman that can put you in a mood though so how enjoyable your experiance will be can depend on who you draw to wait on you. They do offer a life time warranty on any gun you buy from them even if the manufacture doesn't so that is hard to beat.

I'm with redirn5.
I've bought several guns there, but the youngens seem to think because they sell guns that they are knowledgable. Not always the case.
You might get a small discount on a pair. If nothin else tell them you need some free ammo and a shirt. Maybe a hat or two. They have this stuff, they just don't like to share it.

When I go to buy a firearm, I already know what I want and have my mind made up on it and the price. I'm not going to let a smart-alic saleman change my mind or make me mad. "I been around you know".... (a line taken from a movie I liked) Good advice on a firearm comes from research and MSGO members on this forum. The members on here have honest opinions, not money-driven opinions. :2c:

I have good luck dealing with a few of the private sellers at the show and there is one vendor that I can do business with. Past that, I am there to browse the firearms and see what folks are carrying around trying to sell themselves. And like chestnut said, if you have your mind made up on what you want, there's no need to let a salesman or his attitude to cause you to have a bad day. Discount them for what they are and go on about your business. On another note and it has already been mentioned... That lifetime warranty is interesting. I doubt that they will be around that long (most businesses aren't) but it could certainly be worthwhile.

I have done much biz with Dad's, there are good and bad (piss me off) salesmen both young and old in there. They will haggle but sometimes you have to go higher than the guy you are talking to. If it's a pawn is diff. than if it's a trade in.$$$$$ Cooks in Biloxi is good too, and they are the only place around that has reloading stuff.

I have bought several from them. Pascagoula is slower customer-salesman interaction is better than Gport. Gport has been so busy I couldn't stand to be inside the place.
Last handgun purchase: Kimber Raptor Pro. Gulfport, no haggling. Best price considering shipping, FFL fees and etc. Had it one year and one week when I noticed the Front Nite Sight was dead. Dad's receipt located and noticed it was stamped Dad's Life Time Warranty. Kimber book said one year.
Called Dad's, put on hold then took my number with promise to call back. They called back in about 30 mintues. Said they called Kimber. Said Kimber said custom gun with mepro sights, warranty 12 years on sights. They told me to bring them the slide and they (Dad's) would take care of everything. Two weeks later, slide back new sight they called me offered to put it together if I brought the frame to them. Not a penny out of my pocket.
Pascagoula most recent gun purchase. Savage bolt action 22 mag with scope. Out of pawn. 99.9% appeared never fired just handled. Tagged at 175.00 haggled with sales girl then went to the boss. 140 out the door. Not sure if I got a good deal or not. It was fun and the gun shoots better than I thought it would. Makes it a deal to me.

I dont do business with dads anymore. The guys are a bunch of jerkoff's. Laid the money on the counter for a NEW rifle and after looking at it there was surface rust under the stock. He said ehh not a big deal, ya still want it :2tup:

Pascagoula seems decent although they willnot work on the price it seems unless its used.

Dad's super pawn is owned and opereated by a bunch of profiteering jack wagons. When a co-owners brother quites and decides to open his own store that sends a message. I have found firearms in there that I could order and come out cheaper with the shipping, handling and transfer than their in store price.

After what one of the co owners said to me about my military service, I will NEVER go back and I insure that every one that asks or I talk to knows.

Rant over.

I have found Gulfport has one of the best handgun selections in the state, both new and used. That being said, their prices are "OK". Not great, not bad. The biggest issue I have had with them is service. Unless you walk up to the counter with a visible wad of cash in your hand, it is often difficult to get any help.

It's been about 2 years now, but if memory serves. He stated that regardless of my state residence, which mine is here, they needed a copy of my orders because I'm in the military. He went on to state that because I'm in the military he implied it was my fault that the current adminstration makes it hard on them to do business. He also told me they were geting fined for every known military personnel sale that wasn't accompanied by orders. This was all prior to the Fort Hood shooting, or anything else that would implicate anybody in the military.
It seemed to me after some quick research they where adding rules on top of what the BATF has in place. I've checked with other dealers here on the coast, they have never heard of any such regulation or requirement.

Looking back now it doesn't seem all that bad, but his tone of voice and how he handled the situation still makes my blood boil.

Plus Dad's has a 25% mark up, unlike the normal 10%. I'll take my money elsewhere, I have an FFL dealer that doesn't mind all my internet transfers.

I'm looking at purchasing a .38 from the Pasc location. They have lower tagged prices than other shops I've looked at. So you guys are saying they don't negotiate on their new prices? If so, I'll prob keep looking, in no hurry.

I've bought guns at both stores, yes they are pricey on some things. But they were willing to haggle at both places on what I bought.Personally I do not care for the Gulfport store, way to much of a crowd for my tastes and yes I did not care for the young salemen,if I go in there I ask for somebody older to wait on me.
Pascougla is way better for me,I can brezze in right after work on my way home, yes they WILL haggle there, they always act like a customer is highly valued there, actually the bend over backwards to make you happy.Just last week,I stopped in and a young lady waited on me,I needed some flip up scope covers for 2 scopes, told her what brand and the sizes, she grabbed 2 scopes out of the display case and tryed on about 10 covers, found what I needed and had me out the door in about 10 minutes and with a nice smile thrown into the deal for free.....don't know about ya'll but I kinda like service like that.

I don't care for the GPort store eitherfor the same reason, too crowded. They are crowded for a reason thouth, good pricesand selection. The pascagoula store is much slowwer paced.

Some things I do like; every gun is cleared and checked before handing it over the counter and again before it goes in the case. I have asked questions and been told, "I don't know. Let me get someone who does." I have a lot of respect for someone who does that. They usually find stick around to hear the answer so they can answer the nest time.

I spend most of my timea Guns & Ammo because I can drink coffee and BS. But I sometimes use Dad's prices to keep Ralph honest.

DADS!!!

Well i might be throwing myself to the wolves here but I work at Dad's in Pascagoula. And Id like to give my opinion on some of the statements Ive read. First issue, my boss did not quit the other store in Gulfport. He had his own smaller store that got washed away in Katrina and worked at the store in Gulfport until he could open our new store here. So on to issue two, the waranty. Someone said he wouldnt trust our warranty because we prolly wouldnt be here long. If you open your history books, or listened to the radio "Dads Super Pawn" opened up in 1988. Now 23 years might not be "that" long to some people but im pretty confident we will be here for a while. But buy a gun from academy or of the net and take it back to their store and try to get it fixed and they will laugh at you. Third, we work on a ten percent mark up on our guns, i price most of them I KNOW. if you dont believe me, oh well. Point four, the rules on the military guys. Id like you to know that i was in the marine corps myself so i sympathize with you. But one of the main reasons we have to have the papers is because is to prove that you will be here for a certain time. And really the only time this is a problem is when the individual is from california ( they have some strict gun laws ) and we dont want to sell a gun to someone who is going to run back to cali as soon as he leaves the store. This might not matter to you as a customer but if we loose our license to sell guns, we are all out of a job. The smaller shops might not worry about these details, and they might be the ones that wont be open long. Trust me the ATF has rules THEY dont know about. The last thing I want to say is Thank you to the people that had good things to say about us on here, even the ones that werent completely satified with their experience but realise that at times is hard to help everyone in a speedy manner. And when it comes down to it you cant please everyone. And opinions are like @$$holes everyone has one!! lol All we can do here is try to help everyone as they come in (money is not required) and answer any questions they have to the best of our ability so please come in and make your own decision rather than listen to one or two people with a bad experience. Thanks for reading my side of the story.
