Called Dicks in flowood tonight about a Savage Mark II TR. Talked to Jimmy the manager. I ask him 3 maybe 4 times if the rifle he had was the TR he said yes. Hammer went over there to pick it up. Well the guy told me the stock was pistol grip and had a fluted bull barrel. When Hammer got there and looked at it the gun was nothing that good ole Jimmy said it was. The guy tried to tell Hammer, while he was looking at the gun that it was a fluted barrel and that it was marked wrong as a Mark II/93. Hammer informed him its marked right on the tag and showed Jimmy where it was stamped 93 on the barrel. Hammer was not happy and Miss Hammer won't be happy either when she finds this out. Needless to say good ole Jimmy either took us to be idiots and knowingly lied or he is a complete moronic imbasil. I don't think we will be shopping there again any time in the future.

And he missed the sell on that lot if 3 that sold in about an hour cause he was on a goose Chase thanks to good ole Jimmy at Ducks in Flowood. Pray for me folks its not gonna be a good night in the Hammer house other wise known as the tool box. LOL

I had 1 good and 1 bad experience. One time I went in Dick's and waited 15 min. for service at the gun counter with cash in my pocket. No one came and I left. Decided to give them another chance when they had a sell on Mark II's. I got good service but didn't see no one named Jimmy. Matter of fact, it was a young lady. She had another guy help her put on the scope and bore site it. Got good service and was pleased. Price is set by the store, Service is by the employee. Sounds like you got a bait and switch Mrs. Hammer, guy probably never checked.

Sadly, with places like Dick's, Bass Pro, and Wally World, like
many chain mega stores, this is typical "customer disservice",
the average clerk in those places is expected to be completely
interchangeable in any department in the stores, as a result
that hardly gets you someone truly knowledgeable on specific
stock on hand much less what is out there in the gun world
being manufactured, much less the whole store's inventory.
One thing about Vann's, regardless of price is that in my
experience, they and other locally owned stores, you get
a much more informed employee most of the time.

tried Discount on Lakeland? I've dealt with him a few times, and i have family that will ONLY deal w/ them. big savage fans there.....and good prices usually, for me and my family they have been at least.

they rarely have what i want in stock, but get everytime i've ordered its been over nighted for me, and usually a few hundred dollars below msrp.

if you go though make sure you play w/ Kimber, their silver lab, she's a sweety!

Wes is the guys name at discount. I go in there a lot and he kinda gives me a hard time about not buying anything. He may come across as haveing an attitude or arregant but he's a pretty good guy IMO.
But yes he can probably get it pretty quick.

Yeah he's a bit of a smart alic...but if you need somethin he's on it, and knows his stuff....except when I was looking for my Kimber compact cdp2 ha....he didn't believe me until he pulled out kimbers catalog and saw it for himself

I bought a Ruger P95 and a Taurus 24/7 from Academy in Jackson when I was still living up that way. The Ruger had some kind of issue where it would not feed correctly no matter what I did to try and correct the problem. Anyway I called Ruger and they told me to send it back and they would look at it. So then I called Academy and told them about it and the guy I talked to told me bring the gun back and they would send it off to fix it. So I drove all the way over to Academy and dropped it off. Ruger told me it would take about 2 weeks until they could fix it and send it back. So I gave my contact information to the guy at Academy and he told me they would call as soon as they got the gun back. So 3 weeks later I called and asked them if they had it back yet and they said they didn’t have it. I called again a week later and they said they still did not have it back. Then a few more days later I called and they said they still had not received it. So I called Ruger and they said they had fixed it and sent it back already. So that day I was going to Jackson anyway and I just decided I would go by Academy and see what the problem was. Come to find out they wrote my contact information down wrong and Ruger fixed the gun and sent it back and Academy had the gun for 3 weeks but they messed up the paperwork and they did not have it listed as returned.

Maybe I am just unlucky but I have had to return two pistols that I have purchased because something was wrong with them. AND ONE OF THEM WAS A GLOCK…….

I had Walmart order me a stainless 10/22 with synthetic stock a few years ago.

I had to put half down.

It was going to be in the store "in a few days" and they would call me.

Well, they didn't call me, of course.

So, about a week later, I went by the store.

They couldn't find my gun, but had a record of having received it several days prior.

They finally decided that when it arrived, someone put it out on display and a customer must have bought it.

They apologized and reordered and it eventually came in.

Box stores only hire idiots (in general), though there are a few who know their business. But they are the exception.

I went into Dicks last year looking for a Mini-14. Quoted me a price of $999!!! I asked if they price matched, because I had found them MUCH cheaper elsewhere. I was told yes, they price match, but not on special order guns. Since when is a Mini-14 a special order??? Needless to say, I did not, and will not even go to the gun counter if I'm in there ever again.

Well after all the horror stories let me add a good one to balance it out. A while back while looking on the net I came across a cabelas sale flyer that had Henry rifles on sale for 219. I printed one off the net and took it to the walmart on lakeland and they price matched it without any problems. Now the buying process at walmart wasn't the smoothest but it wasn't terrible either. All in all I think I got pretty decent service and a good price.

I'd like to know this as well. Bass pro doesn't carry 22lr bolt actions. Wish we did. You should not have been told we do. We can order them but don't keep em in stock.

Joe bass pro didn't say they carry it, but could see if it can be ordered. Sorry for the confusion. Its the other stores we checked that keep it in stock but couldnt produce yesterday.

I wish we stocked em! I think if carried more rimfires, our gun sales would go up big time! I can't tell you how many people I turn away because of that. I don't want to buy a gun sight unseen (most of the time) and I guess most people don't either. Lol
