I have read where some of you are oiling Tula Ammo before firing it in a ,223/5,56mm. This practice increases the bolt thrust generated in firing the round. The cartridge is supposed to cling to the walls of the chamber and if they don't, excessive thrust is imparted to the bolt face. This can increase headspace in Highpower Rifles. You can cause damage to the locking lugs and locking lug recesses.

I would never shoot any ammunition in a rifle of mine with a steel cased cartridge, especially an AR-15. Don't buy an expensive rifle and shoot the cheapest ammo you can find in it.

You did the right thing. I had a Savage 99 in .243 Win come to my shop. They oiled the cases and it increased head space so much, the field gauge would rattle in the chamber. It case head separated and since there is no other place for the escaping gas pressure to go, it blew the butt stock off the rifle.

Guess the Eastern Bloc militaries never got the memo, the gazillion rounds of steel cased ammo they have used for years is a bad thing to do. :lol4:

I would imagine that most eastern block countries only cared about producing stuff as cheap and as fast as it could...with whatever materials it could scrape up.

This is what makes Kalishnakov so brilliant....a stamped part, but ugly assault weapon that is super reliable.

I did not say I would not shoot steel cases...just that I would not willingly shoot steel cased ammo in anything that I considered valuable...examples AK-47, Mosin 91/30, SKS....

That's about it....now if I was on the battlefield...I'd shoot whatever I could find

I think I'd look for another gun on the battlefield if I was having to oil my ammo...Think I've read where US soldier's had to urinate on their Garands to keep them running during the Battle of the Buldge...my memory aint what it used to be...that might be folklore
