Is there a way to dull the finish on a 10/22 reciever without having to refinish it? I was thinking about bead blasting it but don't know if that will work. Any ideas?
If I'm not mistaken they are painted and clear coated,so if you bead blast it you are gonna wind up with bare cast aluminum.

It could be painted, but it also be clear anodized. Is it shiny now? you want it matte? Easy enough to do , but it will corrode without protection. Clearcoating aluminum isnt a easy thing to do right, aluminum is a difficult material to get most paints to stick to... Ive got quite a bit of experience in this area. I could clear powder coat it when i do mine. I should have the powder ordered first of the week.

Re: Dulling the finish.

It's a buddy of mines rifle and he is fixing to start a build on it and wanted to know about making it matte black. It is shinny now. I didn't think about powder coating that may work. I'll ask him. His job has him working way up in Yankeeville so I'm trying to help him out cause he can't take the rifle with him to do any mods.

Id have to order some matte black powder then, no big deal though. Mine is getting a satin clear over the bare aluminum once i get it how i want it.... may go bling and polish it,not sure.

Ceramic coating works best, kg gunkote works nicely also. I would avoid baking it above 350 F since its basically cast aluminum.
I know what im doing here, I dont need input on how to do this.
I dont care if you do or dont, I was referring to the fact that he was asking about coating and I told him about gunkote and ceramic coatings, some require baking and some dont. Nothing I posted referred to powder coating nor did it refer to you. :)
