Emergency shelter/bunker

What is your emergency shelter or bunker? How did you choose it? How did you set it up? If you don't have one what are your plans for 1 if you are planning to have 1?

I know a family that burried an old school bus in the side of a hill. When the tornado came thru Yazoo earlier this year its what saved them. They had homes totally blown away but other than a little rocking from the front of the bus being exposed that thing didn't move.

Re: Emergency shelter/bunker

Any type of bunker should have some kind of electrical shielding built into it, in the event of an EMP or solar flare. A basic google search on a "faraday cage" would yield beaucoup info. It is the basic science behind the tin foil hat. Should a massive solar flare hit, like it did in the 19th century, or one of our enemies detonate a nuke high over our heads, pretty much everything electronic/electrical would be fried beyond repair, and the latest assessment is that it would be years before the power grid would be back up and running.

Essentially, a faraday cage is a mesh of sensitive metal covering a space. It catches all electromagnetic radiation and diverts it to ground. The storage containers, as pictured in the other thread, could work in this way if they were grounded well. Aluminum or a copper mesh would be better than steel, but anything metal would work to a degree.
