Has anyone bought any factory ammo lately, and if so, were you as disappointed with it? I bought a box of hunting ammo for a caliber that I wasnt set up to reload for--mainly because I dont shoot this caliber that much--but anyway I was very disappointed with what I found. It was winchester rifle ammo, and upon getting it home I realized that there were vast differences in the depths to which the bullets were seated. I mean noticeable to the naked eye differences in overall length and in how much of the cannelure was showing. Needless to say no store will take back ammo (for good reason) so I had to ship it back directly to winchester for them to look and and see if it was within their tolerances. Did I just get a bad box or is this what the recent drought in ammo availability has caused?

s_irwin23, if ya don't mind me asking, what caliber was it? I purchased some match grade .308 from Hornady and the OAL was different on several of the rounds....really unacceptable. Haven't put any of this ammo on paper yet I guess we will see what happens.

I haven't shot any factory ammo in a long time. When I did buy ammo I used Hornady exclusively. The caliber was mostly 308 win. in SST light mag. I didn't have any problems but may be I was just ignorant then. Reloading has taught me what to look for. The ammo grouped pretty well though. Sub-MOA wasn't too much trouble from a factory A-Bolt.

This was 7mm Rem Mag ammo, gray box 175 grain. To winchester's credit they actually sent UPS to my house to pick up the ammo and have it shipped back to them on their dime so that they could look at it. We'll wait and see how long this drags out and what winchester says about it.
