I applied for my firearms permit this morning! I got there around 8:30, it was completely empty, and then realized my DL # is the same as my SS# so i had to get that changed, and when I came back there were a couple of older guys there, so I had to wait about 30 minutes.

so now the countdown, and the weightloss so I can actually fit my Kimber in my waistband comfortably begins!

I say a Permit Application Center that is empty is the travesty! I would like to see more people applying. I would also liek to see MS require some type of firearm safety course as is required in TN.
Agreed. I also would not mind a safety course being required. I've got a few friends claiming they'd like to apply for theirs...so I'm hoping me telling them how easy it was will give them some encouragement.

I am not opposed to this training, and in fact have taken the TN course, but what other right requires a permit? And don't forget that the govt controls the curriculum, the logistics of who can administer the course, and what it takes to pass. IMO the training requirement poses the same risks as registration.

Did you ever take a boater's safety course? I have and do not own a boat. The course would be no more risky than the permit itself. I would like to know that the people carrying weapons have some idea of how to operate them safely! Also, when the Pelosi hots the fan, at the very least it would not be the first time they had ever fired a weapon!

Boating ain't a right.

As I said, I'm not opposed to training, but I'm not comfortable at this point in my consideration of the issue agreeing it should be a pre-requisite. I encourage everyone to get training, as much and as often as possible.

As for "risk" - I'm talking about the risk to the right, not personal safety.

Safety is the same risk I am speaking (typing) of. If you find yourself in a situation and someone pulls out a weapon, do you want it to be their first time pulling that trigger?

Also, I have read, which does not make it true, that some states have denied MS reciprocity because of the lack of a safety course.
