As some of you know last year the CMP announced that they were getting 1911's returned from the military and would offer for sale to the civilian market. The Department of the Army authorized a shipment of up to 10,000 pistols but it is believed 8,000 or so were received for sale.

Last year in September I sent in my packet to try to purchase one. Well, it has been a year and a month and today I got the call that my pistol will be shipped to me today.

I cannot wait to see what I will get; Colt, Ithaca, Remington Rand, US&S. Will it be a true 1911 or a 1911a1

I will post photos once I get it picked up.

They are near the end of the list I think so you just did get one, so congrats for sure! They've been some nice looking pistols from what I've seen. Look forward to the pictures.

I kinda wish I'd put in for one, but I'm not a pistol collector. I'd have ended up selling it the next time a nice 1903A3 or Swede came along! ...then I'd be in trouble with the CMP gestapo LOL.

Stewbaby,

I understand your attraction to the 03's and the 03a3's. Have you been following the CMP forum? There have been some nice examples of both at the store over in Anniston. I have thought of making a trip there.

I stopped by last Thursday on the way to GA hoping for a M1917, but there were none that day. I grabbed a 1903 off the rack just to kill some time since I was there and saw it was a Mark 1 with a 1/19 bbl, muzzle and throat of 1 & 2, and nice bore and wood. So I bought it without looking at any other rifles. I need to stop checking out the guns there when I drive by.

Sorry for the hijack, we need photos of your new 1911.

Trailboss, what have the prices on M1917’s been at CMP? What conditions?

Before I got my number called I was planning to put a strong bid on this one. I have bought from these people before and been satisfied.
Have to add 10 percent and 25 dollar ship

Look at Gunrunner auctions. It ends tomorrow night

I don't know. They had some the week before I was there, and the day after I was there, but I never got to see any. I had just heard some were filtering through. I think the 1903 I got was a turn-in from a VFW or something.

Try the store at the Talladega Marksmanship park, or whatever it’s called. It’s affiliated with the CMP, and last week they had a very nice selection of 1917’s and 03 and A3’s as well.
