Here are the FAQ's:
1. What is Water Transfer or Hydro-Graphic Printing?
Water Transfer Printing or “Hydro-Graphic Printing” as it is sometimes referred to, is a process by which 3 dimensional images are transferred on to a water soluble media and then “Dipped” or transferred onto hard and soft goods products in a Water Bath environment. Though far more complicated, picture in your minds eye, dropping a billiards ball through a sheet of Saran Wrap floating in a tub of water and you get the general idea behind the Water Transfer Printing Process
2. Is the Process Permanent?
Yes, the process is permanent, In so much that the technology utilized in the finishing part of the process is derived from the automotive painting industry, our finishes are literally “As strong and as permanent as the paint on your car or truck".
To put it in perspective, your car or truck spends its life outside in the rain, snow, sun, hot, cold etc... The paint and finish is durable enough to withstand a harsh environment if taken care of properly. You CAN take a grinder and knock the paint off your car, but that of course wouldn't be considered normal wear and tear.
3. Will the Liquid Graphix film coatings Peel or Come Off?
Under normal operating conditions the Liquid Graphix process is permanent and will not peel, crack or “Come off” as some of the more temporary types of “Film or “Skin” coatings are known to do. Our print images literally “Embedd” themselves into our base coats and through chemical bond, become part of the part being finished.
4. Does Liquid Graphix “Warranty” their process?
Yes, Liquid Graphix offers a conditional lifetime warranty on all of the parts we re-finish. If the finish ever becomes compromised do to an installation or manufacturers defect, we will gladly refinish the damaged part at no cost to the customer.
5. Is the Process Hard to Do?
As with any type automotive, marine or aircraft finish, the water transfer printing process is complicated. Many different processes combine to provide the end result and though none of the individual processes are overly complicated, it takes many years of experience to learn and understand the complexities of the films and how to apply our finishes with a minimum of error while maintaining a professional eye on the end product.
6. Is the process toxic to the Environment?
No, Water Transfer Printing is a totally “GREEN” process. Our films and inks are biodegradable and water soluble and offer no threat to the environment.
7. What types of Images can be printed using the Water Transfer Process?
Literally, if you can take a good quality digital photograph of the image that you want to “Dip”, we can make the film. WTI is, in its roots, a four color media process and like most other items in four color, the transfer images can be as simple as a one color background scheme or a combination of many colors, shades and textures. Obviously, the more detailed the image, the more costly it will be to bring the film image into production. If you have an image you would like to produce, contact us and we will be more than happy to offer you a quote to convert your image to a film base.
8. What types of Parts can you apply this finish to?
In a nutshell, if you can paint it we can dip it. From Automotive, to Aircraft, Firearms, Archery, Marine, Household Goods…..the list is endless.
9. What kind of costs can I expect to pay for this process or service?
Dependent upon the complexity of the request, the costs for applying the Liquid Graphics product are quite reasonable and comparable to what your anticipated costs for custom parts finishes done in a conventional manner would be. Please request our current price sheet by email, or if you have a custom, multi image, or multi part request, shoot us an email and we will get back to you with a competitive quote promptly.
10. Do I have to remove the parts to be finished OR can Liquid Graphix provide this service?
The most common means of parts transfers to us come with the finished part removed. That is, you ship us the parts that you want to have finished and our price to you reflects only the costs for dipping, finishing and return shipping. However, more complicated jobs may require the services of our shop technicians in the areas of dis-assemebly/re-assembly and these costs are strictly on a bid/quote basis. For Aircraft and Marine and Custom applications we can accommodate your needs “on your site” and have technicians available to travel to where ever your needs require.
11. So What Do I need to do to get a quote?
Call or email us. We would enjoy the opportunity to be of service to you.
