This weekend I'm gonna do something I have been putting off a long long time.

I'm gonna clean out the safe....betcha some stuff has not seen the light of day for years...

To be perfectly honest...I'm not 100% sure what's in there...

I'm not the best photographer in the world but I have a friend who has some high dollar camera equipment and I've "bribed" him to come over a couple hours and take photo's.

I'm trying to decide how many pics of each piece I should have taken and what size the pics should be.

I'm gonna just make a BIG photo album of everything....included will be serial numbers...what I remember about the gun...what I paid for it and its approximate value....just in case I assume room temperature.

Any suggestions on what should be done while the photographer is here?.

I figure I might use a white bed sheet for a back drop.

I might even get him to take a pic of me in the middle of the whole pile :awesome:

For effect I could add the ammo.....Nah...too much work

I use a digital camera -- take at least 3 pictures per item (each side and one of serial number/make/model) I will take additional per item if there are some identifying marks that would also distinguish it from others (chipped stock - worn metal, etc).

I have entered them all on an EXCEL spreadsheet with a description (Make, Model, Serial #) along with date and location of purchase and amount paid.

I copy the EXCEL sheet along with all the pictures to a CD and then make a couple copies of the CD. Keep a copy here at home and one CD in the safety deposit box.

About once a year, I take my video camera and make a tour of the house and grounds. Video all our belongings!! A copy of the this CD is also placed in the safety deposit box.

well we just got through....and I'm tired....its a lot of "work" draggin all that stuff out...Had more than I thought....

The video thing is a good idea...but i don't have a vid camera

Lots of work left to do....when I get through I'll have a spiral bound book...it will come in handy for the wife if I should assume "room temperature" anytime soon...Keeping it up to date will be a little bit of a chore I guess

wife is jewelry shopping now.... :yell:
