You've about covered it. The stuff you're looking for is Pistol Pro-Grip. Tom Duchmann sells that at the USPSA match.

Don't forget a cap or visor, nothing like hot brass to land on your glasses and start to sizzle and burn. Happened to me a few weeks ago at a Cowboy Action match when a lever action rifle ejected a round that stuck between by shades and eyebrow area.....shooting ceased and business picked up....and I knew better. Shooting resumed, cause the timer was running and they don't stop it because I was having a little self help, shooting for dummies moment. Just a little reminder why I USUALLY wear my visor, but forgot to grab it that morning.
