Daewoo Model K1A1, South Korean. Not many imported, several model changes as BATF got involved in "evil features". Similar in many ways to AR-15/M-16 rifles, trigger group parts, hammer, trigger, disconnect, pivot pins, are identical and interchange; the safety is different in that it rotates 180 degrees instead of 90, but it blocks trigger movement in the same manner. Uses AR-15 magazines, chambered 5.56 X 45 (.223). Better design features in several ways: recoil springs (2) contained in upper receiver, above bolt carrier, which is wider than AR-15, but uses identical bolt, but slightly different firing pin. Buttstock-contained buffer and recoil spring within thin-walled aluminum tube of AR can easily be broken off, rendering weapon useless.
Same gas impingement bolt operation. Uses a "finger-pull" to retract bolt, instead of "charging handle". Spent case ejector much stouter than the little spring-loaded pin in ARs, Daewoo has a large ejector bar mounted in upper receiver adjacent to bolt hold-open. Bolt "key", bolt, firing pin, and bore chrome-plated. Barrel is chrome-moly steel, retained by "castellated" nut same as AR. Stock is collapsible 3 position, or removable completely, with rubber shoulder piece.
These are nice-shooting and looking rifles, if you can find one for sale. A good alternative to ARs, they always sold for less money that the usual big-names. I believe all Daewoos imported were pre-ban, but not absolutely certain. This one is in 95+% overall condition, and is being offered for sale by it's private individual owner at $950.
Think I should buy it?
