Glock 9mm Conversion Experiment

I've got several .40 cal Glocks that I picked up cheap at Southern Connection. All except for one have been converted to 9mm with Lone Wolf .40-9mm conversion barrels. Drop in a barrel and add a 9mm magazine and it's ready to go. I read online that in a pinch you could just use the .40 magazines. I decided to try that with the latest one I picked up, a Gen 4 G23.

I loaded up a couple of mags to see how the 9mm fit in the .40 mag. The feed lip appear to barely hold the 9mm. The round sit a lot higher. I was concerned that the spring pressure from a full mag would force them out but it never happened. I ran over 50 rounds through it had never had a single issue. I would have guessed that it would have jammed with them sitting that high but it never happened.

I've unknowingly done that at the range before. Was reloading a mag at the bench then realized was a 40 mag. It was a factory Glock mag as well. Curious if aftermarket mags Do the same. I think for range use it's perfectly fine, I would not in any circumstance carry or recommend using the wrong mag for carry/self defense

Are the extraction marks from ejection the same?

I’ll check next time. I shot several different 9’s and all the brass is mixed up.

I shot my .40 Glock the same way. No problems at all. Got a .357 Sig barrel but never used it. Wonder which mag is the best for that round ??

If not mistaken the S&W m&p 40s&w mags also have 357sig imprinted on them. So I'd say the same for Glock mags

I've read that Beretta's .40 S&W caliber Model 96 can "run" quite "okay" with 9mm Model 92 magazines - with appropriate caliber rounds loaded per the barrel bore marking... this "in a pinch"... and "vice versa" too.

Range shooting only recommended herein. :)

Personally, I've not ever "tested" this option...
and have no need to do so... ;)

357 sig is just a necked down 40 case so The 40 mag.

I have both the 357sig and 9mm conversion barrels for my G22. I really enjoy the 357sig barrel. Shoots great, ejects great, no malfunctions. The 9mm works fine but kicks the brass right back into my forehead. :)

I used G19 (9mm) mags in my G27 (40) without any issues.
I’ve gone back and forth in the conversion barrels. One day it seems like a good investment, the next not so much. Have any of you done full conversion (ejector, extractor, etc) and kept that full time?
I went the cheap route since I wasn't sure I would even use it. I ordered from Bear Creek and got it for $47 shipped. Just tried it with the 40 cal mags and went bang every time. I didn't shoot for target but it did hit a 18" square of cardboard from 25 feet. I fast fired the last 4 rounds and they were all low on the cardboard. Not match grade but works fine. Now I need thread protector for it. Didn't see it offered from them, but they should have "suggested" it for POS reasons.
I knew 25 feet didnt sound right. I took a tape measure and went back out, It was actually 42 feet. As I was only checking function I didn't do my normal 7 yard test. I guess for 42 feet, it actually did fairly good.
