What do you all recommend for a 1911? Don't (read "can't afford") want a $1000 one. Had a Springfield but have to send it back to the KIA Soldier's dad (I posted it a little while back). Like that pistol very well and would want something like that.

Sid, I'm going to be at Magnolia Sunday afternoon working with my Garand. If you want to run some mags through my Rock Tactical let me know and I'll bring it along. It's getting lonely, hasn't been touched since that day we picked up the ammo cans.

Rock Island is what I would go with you can get the basic G.I. for less than $400

Rock Island is a good 1911 for under $500 dollars. I have both the GI full size and the Compact. I bought the Full size for $500 and the Compact I got for just under $400. Have done some mods to both and both are very good pistols.

Sid you've heard it from everyone else and I'll say it again, RIA is your best bet. Personally I want a compact model for my primary carry. I recently shot a friends and I fell in love even before I jacked a round in the chamber. Great shooter and fits perfectly in my opinion. Since I have a deep seeded love of the 1911 and the .45acp round all together; its a match made in shooting heaven. Personally trying to find one now, if you find a good lead on anything locally in MS please let me know.

Thanks for all the input. I really liked Shoeshooters RIA, looked very well put together.
Steven, if I don't have something the wife has lined up for me, I'd like to check it out (and take a look at that Garand too!).
