Easy there Cliff! :p
I'm trying, Para40... I'm honestly trying here... as best I can... ;)

I know few seldom or ever get "excited" over Marlin's Model 60... the darned things are almost ubiquitous... and seldom get the "respect" this rifle might otherwise garner.

Marlin has perhaps made "half a jillion" of these "affordable" rimfire rifles since it was introduced in 1960. But for what it's worth, a Model 60 typically offers outstanding accuracy for modest bucks... right outta the box!

At least from where I sit, the wood on the one in the photo looks way nicer than my admittedly and lowly plebeian Model 60 has... :)

For your consideration... I offer this as follows from the "take it for what it's worth" department...

A friend of mine (who happened to be quite successful in life and career wise) once remarked this to me when talking about firearms and the companies who manufacture them...

"I've seen what you can do with a lot of money... now show me what you can do with not so much money!"

It's not that this man was deeply into "cheap" and "inexpensive" firearms... in fact he owned a firearm collection that would make many of us turn absolutely green with envy. But he apparently did have tremendous respect for what a man's money does and can buy!!!

There's a lesson therein for all of us, as I should think!!!

Marlin's Model 60 is a good "fit" for what he was talking about!!!

That's my story, guys... and I'm sticking to it!!! ;)

Para40 and Chicknman... I must admit too that I didn't realize until a second or so ago that my initial post about the Marlin .22 was "in triplicate"...

The MSGO server was evidently "bogging down" and I became somewhat inpatient there... hitting the "Post Reply" button on it a few more times!!! ;)

Clearly, that's my own "mea culpa", so to speak. :(

Lol, you know it’s going to cost you some money and time keeping a eye on southernreliading.

Really like the ideal of a pawn shop thread or sticky for pawn shop finds for us that aren’t close to them.

I agree, but I already have an old Marlin 39, and just can't justify TWO lever action .22's when there's other stuff I need more. . . . . like food, electricity, etc.
I fully understand... especially considering you have one of those very fine Marlin Model 39 lever action .22 rifles. So do I have one... since my early years... first firearm I ever owned!

That said, Browning's lever action .22 is very impressive... :)

Do what I do. I order cat food in bulk and know that if things get too tough, they can share their catfood for the duration (it'd work for dog food too, even though it'd likely be a ruff month).
I've heard in the past that canned Alpo ain't too bad when heated and served over rice!!! ;)

Saltine crackers and ice water on the side are optional, of course! :D

Stopped off at two West Palm Beach pawn shops this morning. There is a big difference in these two shops than those pictured in Gulfport. Where those in Gulfport have rifles adorning the walls and show cases filled with handguns, these two shops walls are adorned with well used and abused power tools and the showcases are filled with what looks to me to be Sara Coventry jewelry of the late 1950’s. In one shop I asked if they had any guns, the clerk replied yep in the safe, and went back to what ever he was doing. I left the shop never to return. The second shop was about the same as the first. I looked and left....I would assume that most of the Gulfport Pawn Shops listed are gun shops disguised as pawn shops.
Although not on the Gulf Coast, Philadelphia Gun & Pawn has a pawn shop side... and a gun show room side. Both are completely separated from one another. :)

I'm glad I didn't know about those first 2 this morning when I was down there. I would have tried for a package deal
Those first two are "the cat's whiskers and pajamas"... :101010::101010::101010:

Willktrl you want the 66????
Wish I still had my 66's.
A very nice and desirable .22 lr rimfire rifle!!! :101010::101010::101010:

Back in the day, I used to read how trappers favored Remington's Nylon 66... owing to its reliability and survivability when carried in extreme outdoor elements... i.e. - mud and muck.

These appear to be coated. Can you tell?
Could be Birdsong's Black-T... and if so, it's a +++++ in my book!!! :101010::101010:

(The S&W Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman has definitely been "refinished"... otherwise the hammer and trigger would be showing a case hardened "color"... just saying.)

Both of those are very desirable revolvers...

Upon zooming in, the finish and/or metal is really rough just back from the muzzle on the barrel as well as a couple places in front of the trigger guard. And that's just one side. Not sure what the going rate for them is but based on above and non factory finish and depending on how tight the lock up is, I'd for sure have to offer less than asking.
You are right about the condition... appears to be some obvious past pitting on the S&W and some also on the DW.
