A family member of mine passed away recently and he left a gun for me in his will(waiting on the legal process to own the gun).I got to check the gun out today and its a carbine, but where the m1 stamp would be, it has a m2 stamped instead. It also has some kind of registration from the atf.It looks to me like it has a selective fire switch possibly.Anyone know anything about it?Thanks

The M2 is the select fire version of the M1.
+1 -- worth some big bucks IF it is truely registered with the AFT. If not ???

I have a friend who received a similar item through the same channel you currently are. It wasn't too much of a hassle for him, just some paperwork and the appropriate fees. If I remember correctly, yours will fall into one of two categories. It is either an M2 that was manufactured by Inland and will show Inland as the manufacturer on the Form 4 or it was assembled by some other company from parts in which case a different manufacturer will be listed on the Form 4. This will make a difference in the price as will whether it is a C&R or a non-C&R. I think the price range on something like this is in the $5k-$12k range depending on specifics, condition, etc. It will truly be an awesome piece for you to have. I'd insure it and enjoy it. :machinegun:

I believe you will not have to buy a stamp or reregister the class 3 weapon.....law allows you to inherit those type weapons with no extra paperwork or expense.
From what the attorney doing the will says, Its already fully registered with the atf, as far as having a class 3 license I dont know.He is checking into that for me.Its a sick looking gun, from what I can tell its all original, but havent had the chance to inspect more than a few minutes. It shall be mine within 15 days or less.

Just took anohter glance at what all Im receiveing and it says I also get included with the gun:
1. infrared sight
2. 7/8" M84 scope

Just wondering if anybody knows if these scopes go on this excact gun? Also, paperworks says it is a Winchester.Does that make it on the low end or top end of pricing since its not a Inland. Thanks for all the previous help

Be sure to post some pics. Id like to see them.
dont worry, as soon as this legal process is finished, and I have it in my hands for good I will. It definetly looked in good shape, but the weird thing about it was that the stock was alot more bulkly than any other carbine I have seen.Hopefully some jackass didnt try to modify the gun at all.

does the setup look like this by anychance???
The scopes arent installed but one of them looked like the above scope, except it had some kind of battery pack with it.The gun basically looked the same except the flash suppresor appeared to be different.Maybe its just because your picture was in black or white.

you sir have a M3... that was the US stab at infered sniping in korea.. the gun has a range of about 75 yards. and can detect other infered snipers up to a mile.. My uncle actually had one of these. personally it was a complete peice of crap!! take that scope off and put a acog on it. Then go blow some ammo and have fun!

Would the m3 be marked m2 though? The m2 mark is not heavy/over stamped and the amesty papers or whatever is marked m2 also.I dont know too much history on them is the reason I ask so many questions. Also not sure if this scope actualy goes with the gun, he has alot of mil surplus.Would the infared possibly go on the Para trooper carbine?
