i bought a gun vault brand microvault a while back (about 2 years maybe?) and here lately i have had problems with the key pad not wanting to work properly. at first i thought my batteries were dead, but i replaced them and still having trouble. i have used it EVERY day since buying it so i am not really complaining, just making an observation. maybe i would be better suited with a mechanical type lock, rather than electric? it has a key lock back up that i have pretty much been relying on but it is cumbersome to get to and that kind of defeats the fast access of the box that i like so much about it. i emailed the company to see if they will fix it (either for free or me pay them to fix it), or if i will have to buy another one. will see what they say.

Joe, if you get a new safe, make sure it says S&G (sargent and greenleaf) on top of the dial pad. Mine has been kicking for 20 years and they use them at work where they put the money. Sounds like a lot of dialing if you read the instructions but after you get used to it and can open it in 20-30 seconds. Even the wife can get in it when I'm out of town although she'll call me for a refresher course ever now and again.

I bought one in 1998 and it finally stopped working a couple of months ago. The Achilles heel are the wires from the combo pad to the batteries. I pulled a little harder than usual to get the pack out and on installation it just stopped. Gunvault's warranty is for 1 year and they have since changed hands and won't work on the older models. Their advice, " get a new one." I will probably get a different one with the Medex locks. No batteries to change and they always work. I'd like to get a "shotloc" but it's $160 beans-a little spendy but has quick access.
